Overview

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Supervisor, Nursing and Patient Care Services to join our medical surgical team. This is a full‑time, second shift role in Suffolk, VA.

Hours/Days: 5 PM to 3 AM Monday‑Thursday on Week 1, 5 PM to 3 AM Tuesday‑Friday on Week 2.

Areas this role will support

The Medical‑Surgical Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital is a 21‑bed unit with an RN‑to‑patient ratio of 1:5 or 1:6. PCTs assist with an average of 10 or 11 patients. The 1 East Surgery Unit is a 24‑bed unit specializing in orthopedics, spine and bariatrics, designed to provide high‑quality, short‑stay care. The team also sees high acuity surgical patients from Endoscopy, General surgery and GI.

Average patient stay is 1 to 2 days. RN staff can expect a 1:5 or 1:6 ratio and an average of 6 to 8 patient discharges per shift. It is a well‑staffed, fast‑paced environment that values ongoing staff development through a comprehensive orientation program.

Responsibilities

The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the day‑to‑day operations of the healthcare facility during their shift, ensuring high‑quality patient care, safety, and staff efficiency. This position serves as the primary liaison between departments, providing leadership, direction, and support to nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers. The Supervisor is also tasked with coordinating patient flow, managing staffing levels, responding to emergencies, and addressing any operational issues that may arise throughout their shift.

Education
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing – BSN (required)
  • MSN (preferred)
Certification/Licensure
  • Registered nursing License (required)
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Professional Specialty Nursing Certification preferred
Experience
  • 1 year of previous management experience OR 2 years’ experience in a support leadership RN position (required)
