UChicago Medicine in Hyde Park, Illinois is hiring a full‑time Lead LPN for its OR Administration department.
Shift: Mid Shift Mon‑Fri
A Licensed Practical Nurse provides a wide variety of nursing care services to patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician. The Lead LPN role delivers clinical and administrative support for the Surgery and Procedural areas, ensuring coverage and continuity of care for all patients. The Lead LPN interfaces with providers, clinical staff, and patients in a procedural setting, contacts patients prior to procedure dates, and provides clinical information and patient education to ensure a consistent experience.
EssentialJob Functions
- Schedules patients for procedures as requested by the clinics.
- Contacts patients with information pertaining to their procedure such as arrival time, NPO and medication directions and any other instructions as required.
- Works in conjunction with clinics to provide clinical and administrative support for our patients.
- Provides excellent customer service and consistent messaging.
- Cross‑trains as needed.
- Coordinates with staff and providers to enhance the quality of patient care.
- Coordinates daily work flows to ensure all daily tasks are completed.
- Provides leadership in adapting to change and promoting cost‑effective measures in the practice to assure proper use of time, supplies, and personnel.
- Active participant and informal leader in staff meetings.
- Takes lead in the orientation of new clinical employees, participates in continuous Quality Improvement projects, assists with data collection and shares responsibility for the MDI board, and is responsible for audits and quality control processes in the clinic, including but not limited to fridge temperature, expiration date review, and maintenance of the VFC program.
- Assesses and pursues education for own professional growth and development and promotes the professional growth of others by participating in recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff members.
- Knows and practices the PRIDE values and promotes teamwork to create a positive work environment.
- Uses sincere greetings with providers, staff, and families, and owns and resolves service recovery with internal and external clients.
- Is aware of emergency procedures for their area and acts as a leader to staff in the case of emergencies.
- Appropriately escalates issues to management for any safety issues and protects University of Chicago property.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school degree is required;
Associate’s Degree is preferred. - Requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the pediatric, adult and geriatric patients in a surgical and procedural setting.
- Experience in a surgical and/or procedural setting strongly preferred.
- Requires registration and current LPN license in the State of Illinois, CPR certification and completion of a Pharmacological course and exam.
