36 hours per week (12 hours shifts on internal rotation) 2 x posts available

Working for St David's you will become part of a much wider team all working collaboratively to ensure the bestcare for our patients. Our 15 bedded in-patient unit provides a safe and secure clinical setting whilst offering the comfort and feel of a home based environment. Allowing family members to spend time with their loved ones in acalm serene setting with the knowledge and comfort of 24 hour on-site nursing care.

As part of the Inpatient Unit youwill benefit from a salary in line with Agenda for Change pay scales and willenjoy a generous annual leave entitlement. We can offer the continuation of theNHS pension scheme if already a member as well as honouring any additional annual leave entitlements accrued as part of previous NHS service. You willhave access to free on-site parking at both the inpatient and any of our officeor training locations.

IPU Qualified Nurse

To ensurea high standard of individual care for patients with life limiting illness, toinclude

the careof their families within a safe, friendly and efficient environment.

To assistin providing a high level of pain and symptom control. Monitoring any symptom

change sand liaising with other medical professionals as needed.

To communicate with patients, families and carers in a sensitive and empathetic way,

maintaining effective communication with multi-disciplinary team members.

To work in line with clearly defined policies,protocols, procedures and the NMC code of conduct.

Our mission is to provide and continue todevelop a free and comprehensive palliative care service of excellence throughout Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and within South and Mid Powys for people, their families and carers facing a progressive life-limiting illness which is no longer curable. Job responsibilities

Key Tasks:

  • To work in accordance with the policies and procedures of St Davids Hospice Care and HIW (Health Inspectorate Wales).
  • To be responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
  • To liaise with medical staff to implement treatment and care, ensuring that medical instructions are carried out, monitored and reported effectively.
  • To maintain appropriate written records in all areas of clinical practice.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To ensure patients comfort and dignity at all times.
  • To monitor symptoms and take appropriate action during shift.
  • To administer medication as prescribed.
  • To maintain a safe environment for self, patients and carers at all times.
  • To communicate effectively with patients, families and colleagues.
  • General Responsibilities:

  • To be guided by clearly defined policies, protocols, procedures and the NMC code of conduct.
  • To report all accidents / incidents, near misses and complaints in accordance with St Davids Hospice Care policy.
  • To be responsible for the safe use of expensive equipment, e.g. hoists, syringe drivers, mattresses, etc.
  • To be aware of one's own responsibility towards health and safety regulations.
  • To recognise and accept the limits of personal knowledge and responsibility.
  • To recognise the need and be willing to undertake any training identified as necessary and ensure that Revalidation is up to date.
  • To observe a no smoking policy whilst on duty.
  • To observe a no sleeping policy whilst on duty.
  • To maintain your personal, emotional and psychological health relating to your role, e.g. by attending the de-briefing and clinical supervision offered.
  • To contact the nurse in charge in the event of any problems occurring during the shift or if their condition causes concern or if the patient dies.
  • Ensure a verbal handover from clinical team prior to shift commencement.
  • To be aware of the risk assessment
