Job Summary

This job opening is for a Dual-Unit-Based Temporary RN position for 7W and 8E.

  • These positions do not qualify for UMHS benefits; specific terms & conditions are negotiated at the department level.

These positions are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U of M Professional Nurse Council.

Responsibilities
  • Unit 7W:
    Acute care for adult hematology/oncology patients – bone marrow and blood stem cell transplant (BMT), leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, aplastic anemia, and immune and genetic diseases. Also gynecologic oncology patients. World‑class care with a team approach. The BMT program is internationally known for research to make transplant safer and more effective. All nurses receive hospital‑based training & competency checks for chemotherapy administration and EKG interpretation.

    Telemetry capability is available.
  • Unit 8E:
    Acute care for adult surgical patients – endocrine surgery, benign gynecologic surgery, gynecologic oncology, and medicine hematology patients (blood cancers, etc.). Similar training and telemetry capability is provided.

Location:

C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital – a state‑of‑the‑art facility. The University of Michigan Health is a Magnet recognized hospital and was recently named #1 hospital in Michigan.

Required Qualifications
  • Current Michigan RN License.
  • Complete and accurate resume must be attached for consideration.
Desired Qualifications
  • Oncology RN experience preferred.
  • Telemetry RN experience preferred.
Work Schedule

Hours:

Day shift; 12 hours. More shifts may be available based on unit needs.

Location:

Mott Children’s Hospital, 7W Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and 8E Adult Surgical Unit.

Dual Unit Information

Home unit is 7W. The RN may need to float to either unit during a scheduling period based on staffing needs.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually and may change at any time.

This temporary position may meet eligibility requirements for health‑care benefits.

Per Diem / Unit‑Based Temporary Nurse Guidelines
  • Each temporary employee working three or more shifts per scheduling period will be scheduled for a minimum of two weekend shifts per scheduling period.
  • Employees who schedule two or fewer shifts per scheduling period are not required to meet weekend requirements.
  • Employees may add additional unanticipated shifts only.
  • Employees are expected to work a portion of scheduled shifts on off days (recommended guide: 25%).
  • Managers may establish additional guidelines based on unit scheduling requirements.
  • Each nurse scheduled for holiday weeks will reflect their normal pattern: scheduled for 3 of 6 holiday weeks; one of these weeks should be Christmas or New Year’s week.
  • Guidelines apply to all temporary nurses regardless of hire date.
