Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner – Band 6

Secondment 12 months (to cover maternity leave).

Hours:

Full time – 37.5 hours per week.

Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per annum (Yearly).

Job Overview

The Major Trauma Centre at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Band 6 Practitioner to support the team for 12 months. This role works in partnership with the existing Major Trauma Nurse Practitioners to ensure full service provision, though the Band 6 Practitioner will not be rostered to work independently. The ideal candidate is an experienced nurse looking to enhance their skills within this exciting speciality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the care of all major trauma patients through the accident and emergency department.
  • Lead the daily major trauma ward round and complete tertiary surveys to manage trauma patients across the whole pathway.
  • Liaise with regional trauma units to ensure effective patient flow and facilitate the reverse transfer process.
  • Serve as senior nurse for the trauma team calls when on duty.
  • Provide clinical expertise and specialist advice within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Deliver high quality clinical care and support the clinical development of the trauma service through evidence‑based practice.
  • Alert senior clinical and operational management to operational issues – access, capacity – in a timely manner.
  • Maintain good communication with patients, families and relatives to meet individual needs and address issues identified.
  • Attend and participate in key major trauma meetings.
  • Collect and analyse data to support monitoring and development of the major trauma system.
  • Collaborate with staff in the Emergency Department, Critical Care and the Major Trauma Ward.
  • Support the coordination of the rehabilitation pathway with therapy teams for trauma patients.
  • Work closely with TARN Coordinators to meet trauma key performance indicators and BPT measures.
  • Represent the MTCC major trauma centre at external events regionally and nationally.
Qualifications

Essential Criteria
  • Registered Nurse, Midwife or AHP
  • Post‑basic specialist qualification relevant to speciality
  • Evidence of continued professional development
