Job Summary and Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Trauma Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Chandler, Arizona. You will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive and high-quality care to critically injured patients.

  • Provide care to general surgery and trauma patients at level 1 trauma hospital.
  • 12 hour shifts to support mix of day and night coverage.
  • Provide coverage to a 24 hour/7 day a week service line.
  • Obtain pertinent medical history and appropriate physical exams.
  • Orders and interprets pertinent lab and/or xray studies and conveys information to attending physicians.
  • Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Counsels patients on pre and post-operative care, post-trauma care, recovery and expectations.
  • Rounding with residents/students.
  • Occasionally assist surgeons by providing first assistant surgical services.
  • Assists attending surgeons in hospital by making patient rounds, recording pertinent information in the patient's medical record.
  • Prescribes medications within scope of practice and Arizona law.
  • Performs bedside procedures within scope of practice and delineation of privileges.
  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
  • Maintain appropriate licensure required for role and active privileges at hospital.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system's corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

PA Requirements:

  • Degree as a Physician Assistant (PA-C).
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Must hold and maintain: a.) AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants License, b.) NCCPA - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant.
  • Valid DEA registration.
  • Must meet credentialing criteria for medical staff.

NP Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Graduate of accredited program for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Compact state or Arizona RN license.
  • Arizona Advanced Practice Nurse license.
  • Must hold and maintain National Certificate as a nurse practitioner in area of specialty under AZ regulations: a.) NP-AACN, b.) NP-AANP, c.) NP-ANCC.
  • Valid DEA registration.
  • Must meet credentialing criteria for medical staff.
