Title:
Volunteer Grant Proposal Writer
Organisation:
Nurture the Children International – a registered charity in England and Wales (Charity number: 1173351) dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and families in the UK and abroad. We also provide mental health support services in the community.
Location:
Remote / Home-based (with occasional virtual meetings via Zoom/Teams). Occasional in-person meetings possible if you are based near London, but not required.
Hours:
Flexible – approximately 4–8 hours per week (can be arranged around your availability). Minimum commitment of 6–12 months preferred.
To support the charity’s long-term sustainability by researching funding opportunities and producing high-quality grant applications to trusts, foundations, statutory bodies, and other grant-making organisations, helping us deliver and expand our charitable activities.
Main Responsibilities- Research and identify suitable funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, local authorities, NHS integrated care boards, National Lottery Community Fund, and other relevant UK grant-makers
- Maintain an up-to-date funding pipeline/calendar of opportunities, deadlines, and reporting requirements
- Work with trustees, staff, and project leads to gather information about our projects, outcomes, budgets, and impact data needed for applications
- Write clear, compelling, and well-structured grant proposals, letters of enquiry (LOIs), expressions of interest, and supporting documents in line with each funder’s guidelines
- Prepare accurate budgets and financial information for grant applications (in collaboration with the treasurer/finance lead)
- Submit applications on time and follow up as required
- Assist with post-award grant reporting and evaluation when needed
- Keep accurate records of all applications, correspondence, and outcomes (using shared tools such as Google Drive, Excel, or the charity’s chosen CRM)
- Essential: Excellent written English with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, concise, and well-structured documents
- Essential: Strong research skills and confidence using online databases/portals (e.g. , Funds Online, 360
Giving, Charity Commission register, Foundation Directory) - Essential: Good attention to detail and ability to follow complex application guidelines precisely
- Essential: Self-motivated and able to manage your own time and meet deadlines
- Essential: Basic understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel/Google Sheets, and cloud-based file sharing
- Desirable (but not essential): Previous experience in grant/proposal writing for UK charities
- Desirable (but not essential): Familiarity with common UK funders in our sector (e.g. National Lottery, Comic Relief, Tudor Trust, local community foundations, etc.)
- Desirable (but not essential): Understanding of outcomes/impact measurement in the charity sector
- Desirable (but not essential): Experience working with budgets or simple financial narratives
- Desirable (but not essential): Knowledge of safeguarding, equalities, or GDPR principles in a charity context
- Meaningful way to use your skills to directly support [charity’s cause/mission]
- Opportunity to gain or develop specialist grant-writing experience in the UK charity sector
