Reporting to the Associate Vice President for University Advancement, the Development Officer develops and implements strategies and work plans to secure philanthropic support from donors who have the ability to make a gift or pledge of $25,000 or more.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of professional experience in fundraising or related non-profit organizational work, alumni relations, sales or closely related field.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated success in building donor/client relationships.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong relationships with alumni and prospective donors.
- Demonstrated success with cold-calling techniques.
- Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment in managing a portfolio of prospects and donors.
- Ability to develop and successfully execute annual and long-term work plans.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to successfully manage time, calendar, travel and competing priorities.
- Proven research and analytical skills.
- Must be self-motivated and possess creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a diverse, fast-paced community.
- High level of competency with common MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of or ability to learn Raiser’s Edge software.
- Manages an active portfolio of approximately 80 prospects in all aspects of the gift cycle—identifies potential donors, qualifies their capacity to give/pledge $25,000 or more, cultivates relationships to understand donor interests, solicits donations, and stewards gifts.
- Plans and executes required travel locally, regionally and nationally and completes contact and call reports in a timely fashion on the Raiser’s Edge platform.
- Works collaboratively with peer Advancement/Foundation staff, university staff and volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors.
- Assists with department and university programming and initiatives in support of fundraising goals.
Occasional evening and weekend hours and overnight travel.
TelecommutingEmployees are not eligible for telecommuting/remote work during their 12-month probationary period. After that time, certain positions may be eligible for telecommuting/remote work at the discretion of the supervisor and in accordance with Winthrop policies.
