Position
Purpose:
Reporting to the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR), the assistant director will manage a portfolio of 15‑25 corporate and foundation funders, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward these funders for grants supporting Dartmouth Health’s goals and priorities. The role also includes managing CFR databases, conducting prospect research, and writing acknowledgement letters, briefings, and other content related to Dartmouth Health priorities.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Experience:
2+ years in philanthropy/fundraising, preferably in corporate and foundation relations; experience working in a large and/or complex organization; writing, communications, and/or editing experience in higher education or a non-profit environment. - Skills & Knowledge:
- Ability to work with and command the respect of senior officers, faculty and administrators.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams.
- Excellent analytical, project‑management skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities.
- Expertise in operating databases, spreadsheets, and web‑based software applications.
- Self‑motivation, flexibility, humility, joy, and humor.
- Philanthropy/fundraising background in corporate and foundation relations preferred.
- Manages a portfolio of 15‑25 foundation and corporate prospects through qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles; meets performance metrics.
- Partners with Medical and Healthcare Advancement colleagues to support event sponsorship proposals as needed.
- Assists in formulating strategies, briefings, and other materials for Dartmouth Health senior officers, faculty, and researchers involved in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporations and foundations.
- Works independently or in collaboration with Medical and Healthcare Advancement directors to develop and submit funding proposals.
- Collaborates with the director to organize and coordinate corporate and foundation meetings and Dartmouth Health site visits.
- Coordinates with the CFR team to generate and distribute weekly lists of current funding opportunities.
- Conducts research to identify funding opportunities for individual Dartmouth Health researchers and program leads, compiling prospect lists for future cultivation and solicitation.
- Tracks and maintains a database of program‑lead/researcher expertise and funding needs.
- Tailors grant acknowledgment letters to reflect each foundation/corporate grant’s unique value.
- Builds and maintains relationships across Medical and Healthcare Advancement and Dartmouth Health to ensure smooth coordination of processes and projects.
- Maintains knowledge of initiatives, current programs, and other funding opportunities offered by corporations and foundations.
- Follows institutional protocol for proposal submission via the Sponsored Projects Administration (Dartmouth Health).
