Kennebec Behavioral Health, established in 1960 to provide comprehensive behavioral health services and named one of the Best Places to Work in Maine for the last 5 years and now recognized as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), is seeking a motivated and detail- oriented Special Events and Campaigns Intern to work with our Development and Community Engagement team. This unpaid position will be hybrid (remote and working in our Augusta Office) for 10-15 hours per week.

The position will play a hands-on role in planning, promoting, and executing fundraising events and awareness campaigns that engage the community and support KBH’s mission. This is a great opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in nonprofit fundraising, communications, or event planning.

Some of the key duties of the position
  • Support the planning and logistics for community events, fundraising campaigns, and donor recognition activities (e.g., giving days, annual appeals, vigils, and open houses).
  • Assist with event promotion through email campaigns, flyers, social media posts, and community calendars.
  • Maintain and update campaign timelines, checklists, and budgets.
  • Help secure in-kind donations and sponsor ships by reaching out to local businesses and community partners.
  • Draft content for thank-you notes, newsletters, and event follow-ups.
  • Capture photos or content during events for post-campaign storytelling and documentation.
  • Provide support with RSVP tracking, name tags, signage, and event materials.
Desired Qualifications
  • Interest in nonprofit communications, fundraising, or public events.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Comfortable engaging with the public and representing the KBH brand.
  • Experience with Canva, Constant Contact, or social media platforms is a plus.
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable transportation preferred for in-person event support (mileage reimbursement available).
Learning Opportunities
  • Gain practical experience in event planning, fundraising strategy, and community engagement.
  • Learn how to support donor and volunteer communications in a nonprofit setting.
  • Build a portfolio of event and campaign materials.
  • Strengthen communication, time management, and project coordination skills.
