Job Description

The Senior Director, Philanthropy and Partnerships is a front‑line member of Y‑USA’s fundraising team, responsible for securing the philanthropic resources necessary to reach and sustain YUSA’s $100 million annual fundraising goal in service to organizational priorities. Reporting to the Vice President of Financial Development, this individual will work in collaboration with the full financial development team to execute YUSA’s fundraising strategy, and they will be responsible for identification, qualification, solicitation, and ongoing stewardship of an assigned donor and partner portfolio spanning individual and institutional donors.

They will work closely and collaboratively with members of the program, operations, and finance teams to ensure that prospective donor conversations and secured financial support are aligned to organizational priorities, building a sustainable foundation for current and future projects. The role will additionally partner with external stakeholders nationally across YMCA affiliates, Y‑USA senior and executive leadership, and as needed with members of the National Board of Directors to build and advance donor relationships in service to maximizing philanthropy for the 10,000 communities the Y serves across the country.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as Business, or related disciplines required.
  • Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience required.
  • Deep functional expertise and functional thought leadership.
  • Oversee multiple teams or functions.
  • Ownership of short to mid‑term execution of functional strategy and the operational direction.
  • Internal and external communications, executive level, high influence on dept. and organization.
  • Minimal supervision from manager; manages an area or team leads within a function/department.
Essential Functions
  • Build and manage a principal gift ($250,000+) donor portfolio aligned to reaching the department’s annual $100 million goal – pulling from personal past/existing relationships, new prospect research, current/former YUSA donors, and incoming prospect leads.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Financial Development to build the individual donor portfolio for YUSA, engaging CEOs and Chief Development Officers from across Y affiliates to maximize high‑net‑worth donors across the country – maintaining strong partnerships with YMCA affiliates, approaching shared donor relationships collaboratively.
  • Lead discovery and engagement meetings with prospective funders to maximize philanthropic opportunity and donor/prospect interest and enthusiasm, soliciting and securing investments aligned to YUSA’s strategic plan and priority programs.
  • Partner with a grant writer and project manager (as well as any associated YUSA program staff) to build and submit funding proposals aligned to prospective donor conversations/opportunities and ensure that partnerships are executed according to funding agreements.
  • Collaborate with Financial Development operations and appropriate program staff to ensure grant awards are distributed in a timely manner according to partnership agreements and utilized according to donor intent and timing.
  • Update donor database, including all constituent and opportunity information, on a regular and frequent basis to ensure opportunities, pipeline, portfolio, communications, and funding agreements are captured for accurate reporting and record keeping.
