Central Virginia Community Justice (CVCJ) is seeking a part‑time Outreach Coordinator. This new role will engage the community to raise awareness about and interest in restorative justice & CVCJ. The Outreach Coordinator, under the supervision of the Executive Director, will take the lead on developing initiatives that increase CVCJ program visibility within the surrounding community. The Outreach Coordinator will develop authentic relationships with community members and groups in order to contribute to building the local movement for restorative justice.
The preferred candidate is self‑motivated, enthusiastic, and community‑driven.
This position involves interacting directly with community members, professional organizations, and community groups.
Outreach & Education- Relationship building with community members to share information about restorative justice & CVCJ
- Connect with community organizations and groups for information sharing about restorative justice & CVCJ
- Initiate listening opportunities to learn what the community wants from CVCJ and restorative programming
- Engage in public speaking and represent CVCJ at community meetings & events
- Lead planning and implementation of outreach initiatives, campaigns, and events to engage CVCJ’s target audiences
- Support and participate in CVCJ events, including workshops and community gatherings
- Assist in creating compelling content for newsletters, social media, and other communication channels to promote CVCJ
- Conduct research to identify potential individuals, partners, stakeholders, and community organizations for collaboration
- Maintain and update outreach databases and contact lists to ensure accurate and timely communication
- Track and report outreach efforts and results, including assessment and evaluation of campaigns with recommendation for improvements
- Maintain accurate online notes & timesheets.
- Collaborate proactively with co‑workers over email, virtually, and in‑person about outreach strategy, decisions, and outcomes/evaluation
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain personal & professional networking relationships (required).
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of engaging and motivating diverse groups. Demonstrated ability to communicate kindly and effectively (required).
- Proactive mindset with a passion for community building and social change (required).
- A familiarity with and commitment to CVCJ’s central values: upholding human dignity and choice; offering curiosity and listening; providing opportunities for accountability, safety and healing (required).
- General knowledge and experience in restorative justice practices, including facilitation, circle keeping, conferencing, mediation and/or conflict coaching (preferred).
- Previous training or experience with trauma‑informed care, active listening, nonviolent communication, or other dialogue techniques (preferred).
- Desire for growth and the ability to give and receive feedback about strengths and areas for improvement (required).
- Excellent organizational, listening, oral, and written communication skills (required).
- Ability to work both in‑person and remotely with minimal supervision (required).
- English required; bilingual Spanish preferred.
- Personal knowledge of and connection to the Charlottesville/Albemarle community (preferred).
- Intermediate computer skills including ability to learn new technology; comfortable using Google Workspace and Zoom (required).
- Access to transportation & work environment with internet access (required).
Time – This is a grant‑funded position. The Outreach Coordinator is an hourly role, average of 10 hours per week (~$18,200/yr.). Flexible hours; some evenings and weekends will be required.
Duration – This position is grant‑funded for up to 3 years; continuation beyond grant funding period is not guaranteed.
Location – CVCJ does not currently have a dedicated office space. Job duties will be performed remotely and in the community (Charlottesville/Albemarle region) until a CVCJ office space is secured.
