Senior Grants Manager
California Environmental Voters is seeking a Senior Grants Manager in its Philanthropy Team. This role will lead creative grant proposal development, secure new and renew existing institutional donors, and ensure all grant deadlines and reporting obligations are met.
Location: California – Oakland, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Riverside, Fresno (remote work available)
Employment Type: Full-Time/Exempt
Wage: Competitive annual salary range $80,000 - $95,000 base pay

Reports To: Director of Institutional Giving
Work Schedule: Four-Day Work Week with two days in the office and two days remote; occasional five-day work weeks as required.

Responsibilities- Ensure seamless and timely process for all tasks, communication, and reports related to the grant process, including letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and stewardship activities.
- Manage a portfolio of 15-25 institutional donors, implementing Moves Management strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships.
- Lead stewardship meetings, solicitations, and renewal negotiations in partnership with the Director of Institutional Giving.
- Represent Enviro Voters/The Ed Fund with integrity and professionalism in all donor interactions.
- Be responsive to funding opportunities and prepare thoughtful and strategic program pitches based on deep funder research.
- Deeply understand Enviro Voters/The Ed Fund’s programs, goals, and financial needs to develop compelling proposals.
- Project manage proposal development with staff in various departments, ensuring that all aspects of an application are complete and cohesive.
- Work proactively with other departments to adhere to all programmatic and fiscal reporting requirements stipulated in grants.
- Write grant proposals, including researching data that supports the development of the funding request, aligning funders’ criteria with Enviro Voters/The Ed Fund’s needs and ensuring the proper preparation of project budgets.
- Submit grant proposals with all necessary attachments such as audited financials, organization budgets, staff lists, tax determination letters, etc.
- Ensure funding agreements are finalized, signed, and payments are received in a timely manner.
- Ensure quality foundation reports are produced and delivered, accessing support from Grants Specialist when available.
- Demonstrate a high degree of skill in communication and positive interaction with all external parties, employees, and the community at large.
- Provide internal guidance to staff on permissible usage of grants and answer questions as they arise. Act as a resource to staff and support the biweekly grants office hours.
- Evaluate systems and processes relevant to grant management and recommend best practices aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
- Manage special projects in support of organizational objectives and perform other duties as assigned.
- Five years or more of grant and contracts management or related project management experience in fundraising in the non-profit environment.
- Strength in delivering oral and written pitches and conducting negotiations with funders.
- Direct donor engagement experience with consistent and effective funder stewardship.
- Understanding of the grant lifecycle process and knowledge of grant writing, current trends, and best practices.
