Under the supervision of the Sports and Program Coordinator and in collaboration with the VP of Sports and Programs, the Regional Coordinator will be the Special Olympics Idaho employee designated to represent a specific geographic area. He/she would be the key to the success of a Regional Management Team (RMT) and the development of local programs. The Regional Coordinator will serve as leader of the RMT, providing the support and motivation necessary to ensure that high quality year-round sports training and competition is available to all eligible individuals within that geographic area.

Regional Coordinator exists to oversee all aspects of Special Olympics within a designated region of Idaho.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Recruit, appoint and manage the RMT, comprised of six positions: training, games, fund raising, volunteers, outreach and families. Conduct scheduled RMT meetings to ensure clear and open communication at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide assistance to local programs as needed to ensure the successful delivery of services to the athletes, families and volunteers of that community.
  • Coordinate an effective communication system within the Area to disseminate information to local program coordinators, families, volunteers and athletes.
  • Ensure local programs are in compliance with all SOI and SOID policies, procedures and rules.
  • Attend all state level competitions
  • Develop and monitor an annual budget, of projected revenue and expenses and a plan, outlining activities to be accomplished during the fiscal year to meet the annual budget.
  • Provide leadership and/or support for local, Area and statewide fund raising activities.
  • When necessary, work in conjunction with the SOID Development Department on Statewide Fundraising events.
  • Ensure that the established Special Olympics accounting and reporting system is utilized in the Area.
  • Ensure that all athletes in the Area are properly outfitted and equipped for their respective sport.
  • Assist local program coordinators in the securing of training sites, development of leagues and participation in scrimmages.
  • Coordinate and conduct necessary Area competitions each sport season.
  • Work in conjunction with the SOID Program Coordinator for Volunteers & Families to provide services to families at the Area and local level.
  • Develop an Outreach plan to increase the number of athletes participating through schools, parks and recreation programs, group homes and sheltered workshops.
  • When necessary, work with the resources in a community to develop new local programs.
  • Recruit and identify Global Messengers and Global Youth Leaders within the community.
  • Represent SOID and its programs to the public by developing opportunities to speak to service clubs and other community groups.
  • Per supervisor’s approval, 97% of time will be spent supporting the mission and program services of SOID.

Qualifications
  • A passion for the Special Olympics mission.
  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational/priority management skills, including excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in public relations, sports, fund raising, fiscal management, event management and volunteer management
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Ability to travel independently throughout the state
  • Position requires working both standing and sitting. Must be able to lift and carry light loads (5-30 pounds) for short distances (approximately one block).
  • Computer proficiency skills (including Microsoft Office) and ability to use multiple platforms database systems, social media sites, and online communication services.

We offer an inclusive, casual work environment. Duties will occur in the Eastern Region of Idaho, in the home office environment, and in the field. Statewide travel is required for this position and covered, with some national travel opportunities occurring for USA Games and Leadership Conferences.
