Key Responsibilities

  • Community Engagement:
    Identify, recruit, and empower community members to become effective advocates for housing
  • Build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including neighborhood associations, community groups, and local organizations
  • Build grassroots support for housing and reach Dallas residents through community organizing
Leadership Development
  • Train and mentor volunteers and community leaders, equipping them to engage with policymakers, share their stories, and advocate for housing justice, primarily within the city of Dallas
  • Foster leadership skills that help grassroots advocates shape public discourse and influence policy
  • Oversee interns with their respective projects and offer support
Campaign Execution
  • Organize and implement grassroots strategies that mobilize communities and achieve measurable policy outcomes
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan and manage advocacy campaigns, tracking progress and impact
  • Engage our 400+ members, recruit new members, and communicate the availability and benefits of voluntary membership dues
Data & Reporting
  • Track volunteer and campaign engagement using Google Suite
  • Use data to measure success, adjust strategies as needed, and report results to the Executive Director, DHC Board, Steering Committee, and funders
Communications (Social Media & Graphic Design)
  • Create timely content and schedule posts to grow social media presence, including weekly “Housing for All” webinar series, photos, and video reels
  • Use Canva or similar tools to create social media content to share on various platforms
  • Organize regular Member, Steering Committee, and Board meetings
  • Co-lead Youth Ambassadors Program (composed of Dallas high school students)
  • Facilitate and plan community events, including logistics and marketing, as a means of relationship-building
Qualifications

Experience

  • Proven experience in community organizing, advocacy, or grassroots campaigning.
  • Good fit for post-secondary graduates with 2+ years of work experience or some equivalent combination of work and education
  • Background in housing, economic development, or urban planning is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.

Skills

  • Exceptional people skills, with the ability to motivate and unite diverse groups around a shared cause.
  • Ability to tailor language to the audience, adapt, and listen deeply
  • Strong communication and training abilities, capable of explaining complex issues in accessible ways.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience in data tracking, project management, and public speaking.
Other Preferences
  • Cultural competence and an understanding of Dallas’ diverse communities, especially in neighborhoods identified through power-mapping efforts.
  • Familiarity with organizing tools and platforms (e.g., Action Network, Sendible [social media scheduler], Google Suite, Mailchimp) to facilitate digital and in-person outreach.
  • Flexibility to travel and adapt to the dynamic demands of advocacy work.
  • Prefer candidates with strong community ties and a network.

This role is located in Dallas, including in-office work with flexibility for remote work. Often requires travel around the city to various community events, both during business hours, on weekends, and in the evenings. We strive to ensure a healthy work-life balance, averaging 40 hours of work weekly.
