About Star Island

Star Island Corporation (SIC) operates historic Star Island—one of the beautiful Isles of Shoals, located 6 miles off the New Hampshire coast. For over 100 years, Star Island has been a place of retreat, community, creativity, and reflection for thousands of guests, drawing on strong traditions rooted in Unitarian Universalist and United Church of Christ values.

Today, SIC is entering an exciting period of growth and transformation as we work to welcome the next generation of Star Islanders, expand program offerings, and diversify revenue sources to ensure long-term sustainability. The environment is unique: staff and guests travel by boat, experience seasonal island life, and contribute to a community unlike anywhere else in New England.

We are seeking a passionate, mission-driven Annual Fund Manager who thrives in a creative, community-centered setting and is inspired by both tradition and innovation.

The Annual Fund Manager leads all aspects of Star Island’s foundational giving programs, including annual giving from individuals and through sponsor ships, renewable grants, and supporting donor recognition societies (e.g., the legacy society). The successful candidate will be able to engage donors through multi-channel appeals, thoughtful stewardship, compelling storytelling, and targeted outreach. This role is vital in helping SIC strengthen donor participation, broaden its base of support, and secure the resources needed to carry our historic mission forward.

If you’re energized by relationship‑building, data‑informed strategies, and the chance to contribute to a one‑of‑a‑kind community, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage, and grow a comprehensive annual giving program, including Spring Appeal, Fall Appeal, event organization and sponsorship, and digital campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday, NH Gives).
  • Develop compelling donor communications that highlight Star Island’s history, impact, and evolving vision.
  • Implement stewardship strategies that deepen donor engagement and retention both locally and nationwide.
  • Use CRM tools to track donor behavior, segment audiences, and identify opportunities for growth. Collaborate with Database Associate on an ongoing basis.
  • Partner with Communications and Programs Coordinator, other key staff, and volunteers/committees to support integrated fundraising and community engagement.
  • Support efforts to cultivate new donors and broaden the diversity of Star Island’s donor community.
  • Contribute ideas and energy during a period of organizational change as SIC expands its reach and begins a capital campaign.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of direct fundraising experience, especially in arts, culture, education, environmental, or community-based organizations.
  • Experience managing annual giving or similar fundraising efforts, ideally during a capital campaign or growth year.
  • Strong writing and grant writing skills and ability to craft persuasive, mission‑centered messages.
  • Experience working with CRM/donor databases (e.g., Raisers Edge) and basic fundraising metrics.
  • Experience with digital fundraising tools, segmentation strategies, and donor journeys.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and communicate clearly with cross‑functional teams.
  • Enthusiasm for Star Island’s mission, history, and unique island setting. Overnight stay/residency on Star Island during the conference season (June‑September: typically 5 days and 4‑5 nights/week)
  • Comfort collaborating with remote and seasonal teams.
What Makes This Role Unique
  • A historic mission:
You’ll support an organization that has offered intergenerational conferences, creative exploration, and spiritual renewal for over a century.
  • A remarkable environment:
While this position can be hybrid/remote, you'll be working on Star Island during the summer—an unforgettable setting of rocky shores, ocean views, and close‑knit community life.
  • A dynamic moment of change:
As SIC evolves to serve the next generation, your work will have a visible, lasting impact on the island’s future.
