Overview

The JMT Wilderness Conservancy is seeking a Development Coordinator to join our nonprofit organization. This position will support the Development and Fundraising efforts within the Conservancy.

JMT WC is dedicated to the conservation of the wilderness, wildlife, and waters along the high Sierra Nevada crest defined by the John Muir Trail (est. 1915). Our mission is to restore and conserve the meadow ecosystems and riparian habitat of the JMT corridor in light of steeply increasing recreational use, compounded by the effects of climate change. The region is roughly 20 miles wide and 220 miles north-to-south, running from Yosemite Valley to Mt.

Whitney, and includes over 390 miles of trails and 2.8 million acres of surrounding wilderness.

In implementing our restoration projects, we work with the National Park Service in Yosemite, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks and Devil’s Postpile National Monument; and the US Forest Service in both the Inyo and Sierra National Forests. We bring together the various stakeholders and resource managers to fund, monitor and support implementation of on-the-ground projects to repair damaged terrain, and protect this sensitive wilderness and the many species that inhabit these lands.

Position

DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

Commitment: Full time, regular exempt employee. In person at our office in Truckee, CA three days per week (Tuesdays - Thursdays) as traffic and weather allow. Remote work possible Mondays and Fridays.

Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 annually, based on education, qualifications and experience. 100% employer-paid benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision; state retirement plan; vacation and sick leave.

Reporting: Direct report to the Director of Marketing & Development (Director).

Responsibilities

This position supports donor prospect development and data management within the Black Baud Raiser’s Edge (RE) customer relations management platform. The Development Coordinator will design and write content for distribution to JMT Wild’s Leadership Group (LG) of prospects. Also works with the Director and Marketing Coordinator to coordinate and support overall communications to the LG, including the recording and upload of key performance indicators (KPIs) and fundraising strategies.

  • Development:
    • Manage the Conservancy’s CRM database for the Leadership Group (LG) using Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge; complete Blackbaud’s online training to achieve mastery of the platform;
    • Annually update the LG constituents by researching new, publicly-available information, and Private Foundation details, locate and upload the most current IRS Form 990;
    • On a regular and timely basis, enter data and upload KPIs for all communications to each LG constituent file, and include a record of all donations and thank you acknowledgment letters;
    • Conduct research on the Donor Search platform to obtain new LG prospect mailing and email addresses, based on jointly determined criteria, keeping clear records of the search criteria;
    • Analyze email KPIs to identify highly-engaged, well-qualified, or high-value donors, and discuss regularly with the Director for possible upgrade to the appropriate LG tier on the RE platform.
  • Email Communication
    • Working with the Director and Marketing Coordinator,
      • update the Communications Calendar with all planned LG content, the method of delivery, and timelines around each initiative;
      • draft, edit, and send email communications to LG constituents;
      • draft and design basic collateral, as needed, in Adobe InDesign and/or Canva;
    • Track, report, and assure accurate syncing of email communications and KPIs between email platform and RE constituent files;
  • Social Media (Linked In)
    • Collaborate with the Director to develop and execute a regular content strategy for a LG-type audience, track in the Communications Calendar;
    • Monitor engagement, respond to comments and messages, and report monthly traffic and engagement metrics.
  • Events & Mailings
    • Draft and mail acknowledgement/appreciation letters for each donation using the Conservancy’s template, sending drafts to the Director or President for final edits and signature.
