Job Description

This is a remote position. FBC is offering 1‑on‑1 mentorship with students as part of our Student Supports for Learning program.

Responsibilities
  • Mentors will connect in person or virtually with youth in the program.
  • Develop a relationship with mentees.
  • Help a mentee develop personal and academic skills.
  • Be a source of support and guidance for their mentee.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Attend mentorship training session.
Requirements
  • Identify as a member of the Black or a member of a marginalized community.
  • Located in Ontario.
  • Prior experience as a mentor or similar experience is an asset.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Dependable (keeps commitments, shows up on time, follows through).
  • Adaptable (shows the ability to overcome adversity in their personal and/or professional life).
  • Respectful (adheres to program and family rules, interested in learning about the experiences of others, nonjudgmental).
  • Resilient (can handle common youth “testing behaviors” and is not particularly “rejection‑sensitive”).
  • Are familiar with the topics being taught such as financial literacy, networking, etc.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within the last calendar year.
  • Experience with being a mentor.
  • Access to the FBC eco‑system amongst other opportunities.
  • A gift card as a thank you for your service.
