We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as Project Officer, helping to deliver Hafanau Heddwch across Wales. Our office base is in Craven Arms, Shropshire, this role can be office based, working at a distance or a hybrid.

Hafanau Heddwch (devlopment phase) will be a multi-year, Wales wide project being developed by CfGA and Church in Wales (CiW), with other significant partners. The project has received funding from CiW and The National Lottery Heritage Fund (Heritage Fund) to appoint a part time Development Manager and part time Project Officer who will lead the project in this crucial development phase, build a compelling case for funding, forge strong partnerships and submit multiple funding applications for the project to move into its delivery phase.

It is expected that the delivery phase will be a multi-million pound project spanning across Wales and making a significant positive difference to burial ground heritage.

Hafanau Heddwch will transform Welsh burial grounds into highly valued heritage hotspots and this will be achieved by delivering a wide package of community engagement events, increasing burial ground biodiversity, recruiting and supporting volunteers, showcasing burial ground heritage, and celebrating Welsh culture found within these special places.

CfGA wish to appoint an experienced and dynamic part time Project Officer who will assist the Project Manager in the development and submission of the delivery phase application to the Heritage Fund and other funding bodies. The work of the Project Officer will include supporting the Project Manager in developing stronger links with other faiths and denominations, community groups, Local Authorities, Community Councils, and volunteering support organisations.

The Project Officer will build on our initial consultation with CiW Archdeacons, consulting more widely and at a parish level in order to shape the project and to seek support. The Project Officer will also take a lead role in the development of six or seven case studies to support our main funding application. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate proven experience within a project officer/project manager setting and will have excellent organisational and communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups.

CfGA are also seeking part time support for core activities including site management planning, replying to those seeking advice on burial ground nature conservation issues, writing regular articles and preparing the content for new resources. For those seeking full time work rather than part time, this may be an option.

Caring for God's Acre (CfGA) is the Conservation Charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) for burial grounds of all types and denominations from small, rural churchyards to large, urban cemeteries. CfGA encourages everyone, from all faiths and none, to explore and enjoy these special places. We have a friendly staff of ten, all part-time, and depend on working in partnership to extend our reach.

We work with a range of individuals, groups and organisations including churches, cemetery managers, community groups, social historians, heritage enthusiasts and naturalists. More information can be found on our website.

To apply , please send your CV and a covering statement outlining your relevant experience and interest in the role to marked with "Project Officer Application" in the subject heading. Closing date for applications 5pm 13th February 2026 with interviews on March 2nd.
