Next Chapter Scotland Helpline Volunteer

We’re looking for compassionate, reliable volunteers to join our Next Chapter Scotland Helpline team. This service supports people and families affected by the justice system, providing information and signposting when needed most.

What’s Involved
  • 1 set day a week, 10am–2pm
  • Two full days of initial training
  • Ongoing support and optional further training if you’d like to grow your role
  • Lived experience of the criminal justice system (your own or through family) is especially valued
  • No PVG required

You’ll be part of a supportive, trauma‑informed team helping people take the next step in their journey.

We’re looking for people who are
  • non‑judgmental (acknowledging that no‑one is completely non‑judgmental but being open to talk about any biases or concerns you may be feeling, so as to work through them)
  • able to handle confidential information
  • able to take detailed notes and pass them to appropriate team members

The role is home based. You will require a private space to be able to take calls without being overheard. When training is in person it is likely to be in Glasgow; online options will be available and travel expenses will be covered.

Support

2 full days of induction training will be provided at the outset. All team members receive safeguarding and trauma‑awareness training. Ongoing training will be provided to all volunteers.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
PVG not required. A phone will be provided, but you will need access to a computer and Wi‑Fi to use the telephone system.

Availability
  • Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun
  • Morning, Afternoon, Evening
Frequency & Commitment

We ask volunteers to commit to 1 consistent day per week.

Volunteers (aged 18‑25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
