Assistant or Associate Director of Development, Student Affairs
The University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the Student and Family Philanthropy team as an Assistant or Associate Director of Development. This role will generate philanthropic support for the Division of Student Affairs (the Division) and manage a portfolio of current and prospective annual giving and major‑gift level donors ($100K+).
Position SummaryReporting to the Managing Director of Student and Family Philanthropy, the successful candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive solicitation and stewardship strategy to move donors toward giving levels that achieve yearly and long‑range fundraising goals.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan including special events, communications, annual campaigns, and major‑gift strategies.
- Travel nationally to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects.
- Collaborate with other fundraisers in the department and across the University to build coordinated relationship strategies for alumni, parents, and friends.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least three years of related experience for Assistant Director or five years for Associate Director.
- Higher‑education development experience with a record of closing five‑figure (Assistant) or six‑figure (Associate) gifts.
- Strong affinity for the student experience at UVA.
- Exceptional communication skills, high personal integrity, and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to small details.
- Demonstrated record of sound judgment and professionalism.
- Experience using data to evaluate and plan.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. It requires frequent traveling and occasional evening and weekend work.
Salary Range (optional)- $60,000–$67,000 for Assistant Director; $70,000–$77,000 for Associate Director, commensurate with education and experience.
- Exempt‑level, benefited position.
- Restricted position dependent on funding availability.
- Hybrid workplace: remote work is possible, but frequent in‑person work on the UVA campus or at event venues is required. The successful candidate must live within driving distance of Charlottesville, Virginia.
