Big Cartel is seeking a Chief Marketing Officer to serve as the architect and leader of our integrated growth engine. We operate at the center of the Creator Economy, providing a dedicated platform for independent creators and makers who prioritize simplicity and creative autonomy.
Your mandate is to unify Demand Generation, Brand & Partnership Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, and Product Marketing into a single, cohesive strategy. We require an executive who can move beyond traditional department boundaries to partner deeply with our Product Team, ensuring that our brand narrative, marketing properties, and platform experience function as a unified ecosystem for acquisition and monetization.
The CMO at Big Cartel must orchestrate growth across a three-stage continuum, requiring a high degree of cross-functional collaboration:
Demand Generation (Off-Platform):
Orchestrating organic, paid, and partnership channels to reach creators where they live.
Acquisition & Conversion (Marketing Site):
Optimizing our web properties to convert high-intent traffic into freemium, trial, and paid users.
Monetization & Retention (In-Platform):
Collaborating with Product to drive the transition from free tiers to paid subscriptions through behavioral triggers and value-reinforcement.
Demand Generation: Lead the strategy for paid, organic, and social channels to drive a consistent volume of high-quality prospects to the marketing site while owning the conversion architecture of our web properties.
Brand & Partnership Marketing: Define and protect the Big Cartel voice while building a robust partnership engine that establishes us as the trusted standard within the creator community.
Product Marketing: Serve as the primary liaison between Marketing and Product, translating platform capabilities into compelling value propositions that drive sign-ups and premium upgrades.
Lifecycle Marketing: Design in-platform messaging and automated journeys that guide users through the crucial transition from “free” to “paid” while maximizing long-term merchant success.
Growth Operations & Analytics: Establish a rigorous testing culture and attribution models to ensure every dollar of marketing spend is optimized for the entire funnel.

Scalable Funnel Management: You have successfully led a marketing organization within a high-volume, self-serve SaaS or B2B2C marketplace with a consumer channel centric go-to-market motion. You have a proven track record of optimizing customer journeys where acquisition and conversion occur at significant scale.
Data & Testing Rigor: You possess a deep fluency in growth accounting and attribution. You are comfortable steering a data-informed organization where decisions are validated by experimentation, testing and ROI.
