Overview

Position: Marketing & Storytelling Associate

Organization: Embodiment Project (embodimentproject.org)

Position Type: Part-Time Independent Contractor (15 hours/week)

Compensation: Starting at $25/hour, commensurate with experience, with opportunities for growth.

Start Date: November 1, 2025

Contract Period: Through June 30, 2026 (possibility of renewal)

Location & Availability: This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Marketing & Storytelling Associate must be available to attend Embodiment Project events at least once a month in San Francisco and Oakland to support documentation, interviews, and gathering content for marketing and storytelling.

Work may otherwise be conducted remotely during Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours.

Position Overview

The Marketing & Storytelling Associate is a key member of Embodiment Project’s small but dynamic team. This role ensures that all external communications, marketing strategies, and storytelling are clear, consistent, and aligned with the organization’s mission.

We are seeking someone with a deep connection and appreciation for the Bay Area dance community—someone who understands Black social dance/street dance culture, industry, and history, and who cares deeply about accurately and thoughtfully representing artists. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller eager to help document our work, amplify artists’ voices, and authentically share the impact of our programming across platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive marketing calendars and timelines.
  • Create compelling content for newsletters, social media, website, and press materials.
  • Design and execute marketing campaigns highlighting performances, partnerships, and community programming.
  • Collaborate with designers, photographers, and videographers to produce promotional assets.
  • Attend EP events monthly in SF/Oakland to document activities, conduct interviews, and gather creative content.
  • Manage social media accounts, track engagement, and expand audience reach.
  • Update and maintain EP’s website and press materials.
  • Research and maintain PR/media contact lists.
Project & Time Management
  • Organize communication workflows and ensure deadlines are met
  • Oversee marketing projects from start to completion.
  • Maintain internal systems (, Google Calendar, shared drives).
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Assist with event producing, logistics, travel coordination, and communications.
  • Archive and manage marketing materials, photos, videos, and work samples.
  • Liaise with partners and collaborators to promote events and initiatives.
  • Support grant reporting with media highlights and marketing documentation.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in marketing, communications, or related fields.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time, and project management abilities.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and newsletter software (e.g., Mailchimp).
  • Experience maintaining websites (Squarespace preferred).
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Canva, Dropbox, Vimeo, WeTransfer, and  (or similar tools).
  • Timely and accurate reporting of hours and invoicing
Preferred
  • Photography, videography, or content creation and editing experience.
  • Background or familiarity with performing arts, dance, or community-based organizations.
  • Deep understanding of the Bay Area dance ecosystem and its cultural significance.
