The Executive Director (ED) will be a spiritual leader with overall responsibility to implement the vision and mission of Reconciling Ministries Network. The ED will oversee the selection and supervision of staff, collaborate in the development of RMN program offerings, and lead the financial sustainability of RMN—enabling the organization to further LGBTQIA+ inclusion and intersectional justice in the United Methodist Church (UMC) and beyond.
The ED serves as the primary visionary and public face of the organization, developing and executing strategy in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, partners, and funders. This role is grounded in relational leadership, mutuality, and deep listening. The ED is not a pastor to the organization, but a spiritual leader who cultivates trust, clarity, and shared purpose.
Keyresponsibilities for the ED include:

- Hold space for diverse theological perspectives while remaining clearly committed to LGBTQIA+ liberation and intersectional justice.
- Serve as a visible witness to RMN’s mission in public, denominational, and ecumenical settings.
- Foster a culture of grace, transparency, courage, and shared leadership.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of RMN’s mission, core programs, operations, and business plans to facilitate strategic growth.

- Lead, coach, develop, and retain RMN staff with clarity, compassion, and accountability.
- Work with staff and the UM Relations Committee to define RMN’s role as the UMC approaches the 2026 Leadership Gathering and the formation of the U.S. Regional Conference.
- Continue to strengthen partnerships with caucus groups, Annual Conference leaders, boards and agencies, and other justice-oriented organizations.
- Ensure effective systems exist to track organizational growth, scaling, and impact.
- Lead the organization through the completion of a major infrastructure upgrade, including systems, tools, and operational workflows.
- Create, negotiate, and manage contracts with multiple vendors providing programmatic and operational services.
- Ensure organizational systems support collaboration, transparency, and sustainability rather than fragmentation.
- Balance visionary leadership with operational follow-through and execution, applying business acumen to all RMN operations.
- Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support and advance the Strategic Plan.
- Develop and grow fundraising strategies beyond the United Methodist Church.
- Deepen and refine all aspects of RMN communications—from web presence to external relations to strengthen brand clarity and trust.
- Use external relationships and visibility to cultivate new partnerships and opportunities.
- Serve as the primary public representative and spokesperson for RMN.
- Develop organizational plans that strengthen volunteer leadership across Annual Conferences and Regions.
- Advance strategies for growth beyond the UMC while remaining grounded in RMN’s foundational statements.
- Ensure marketing and dissemination of new resources reach audiences beyond the UMC when appropriate.
- Lead with adaptability during periods of denominational and cultural change.
The Executive Director is called to lead RMN with vision, relational integrity, and spiritual grounding, holding together strategy and soul, execution and empathy, courage and care. As the movement continues to grow into its next chapter, the Executive Director will exhibit the…
