Overview

Military & Veteran Student Services at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is recruiting for a dedicated Military & Veteran Benefits Specialist. If you are interested, we encourage you to apply!

This position will serve as a VA School Certifying Official and will provide proactive support to military and veteran beneficiaries. We are looking for a detail-oriented team member committed to the accurate management of VA enrollment certifications and strict adherence to federal compliance standards. Must be able to appreciate the nuances of often changing regulations and help our students navigate systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of benefits.

Requires a good grasp of technology and ability to work independently. Responsible for university compliance—attention to detail is a must.

To thrive in this role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage high-volume, detail-oriented work and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment. They must be skilled in organizing workflows, prioritizing multiple tasks, and making sound decisions both independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in computerized systems—including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and specialized platforms such as Enrollment Manager, Tungsten, AI Portal, and Navy NCMIS—is essential, along with the ability to accurately interpret and apply complex federal, DoD, and VA regulations.

Strong analytical, communication, and customer service skills are required, particularly when supporting military and veteran populations and managing complex cases with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.

Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience in higher education, student services, counseling, benefits administration, or data entry is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and 2 years of professional experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77, based on education and experience.
