Financial Manager
Xango is hiring a full-time Controller to take ownership of a portfolio of clients and play a key role in how the firm operates and grows.
This is a senior, client-facing role with real responsibility. You’ll be the primary point of contact for your clients, responsible for day-to-day decisions, delivery quality, and the overall client experience.
For the right person, this role will expand beyond client work into firm operations and leadership, with a clear path toward a future Head of Operations position.
The role is fully remote. Preference will be given to candidates based in Vancouver who are interested in working hybrid up to three days per week at our dog-friendly co-working space near Olympic Village. We are currently considering candidates based in Canada only.

What You’ll Do
Client Ownership
- Own a defined group of clients end-to-end
- Act as the primary advisor and decision-maker for your clients
- Manage scope, priorities, and timelines directly with clients
- Make day-to-day judgment calls independently, escalating only when necessary
- Proactively identify issues before they become problems
Client Delivery
- Review bookkeeping and controllership work for accuracy and professional judgment
- Own and resolve accounting, payroll, and process-related issues
- Lead budgeting and cash flow forecasting support
- Translate financial information into clear, practical guidance
Team and Operations
- Lead and support a small team of bookkeepers
- Coach team members and support their development
- Improve and document core processes as the firm grows
- Identify recurring issues and help put long-term fixes in place
What Success Looks Like
- Within 6 to 12 months, you own a significant portion of client relationships
- You are trusted to make independent judgment calls
- You act as the main escalation point for delivery and quality
- You contribute meaningfully to how the firm operates and scales
This role is intended to grow into a senior operational leadership position.
Who This Role Is For
This role is a good fit for someone who is comfortable working independently and being fully accountable for outcomes. You don’t need a lot of structure or hand-holding and are confident managing multiple clients and priorities ’re practical, solutions-oriented, and client-focused, with clear and professional communication.
Experience and Skills
- 4 to 8 years of Canadian accounting experience
- Experience owning or leading client files end-to-end
- CPA completed or in progress preferred
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting, payroll, and GST/HST
- Budgeting and cash flow forecasting experience
- Big 4 and public accounting experience is an asset
Nice to Have
- Not-for-profit accounting experience
- GST/HST, PST, or PSB filings
- Experience managing or mentoring others
- Familiarity with QBO, Xero, Dext, and Plooto
