Overview
Saab, Inc., a leading defense and security company, is currently seeking an experienced Manager – Government Affairs to lead and elevate the company’s legislative affairs function in the U.S. This role will develop and implement strategies for all legislative affairs initiatives for the U.S. company, including engaging with Capitol Hill and state/local governments. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President – Corporate Affairs (U.S.), this position will enhance Saab’s position as the company delivers on robust growth plans in the U.S. market.
The position is located in Saab’s Washington, D.C. Navy Yard office with a 2 days/week work-from-home option.
- Collaborate with Communications and Business leads to ensure consistent messaging and integration.
- Collaborate with international colleagues across the global company.
- Travel to Sweden 1-2 times annually and domestically as needed to support business requirements.
- Create and execute specific opportunities for Saab’s business and operations in the legislative and political environments.
- Monitor and analyze federal defense and FAA budgets, legislative proposals, and appropriations and effectively communicate business impacts.
- Lead company PAC strategy and execution.
- Recommend company positioning, priorities, strategy, and tactics to executive leadership as related to legislation and politics.
- Build compelling presentations to communicate Saab’s strategic priorities.
- Represent Saab before U.S. federal, state and local governments. Prior lobbying experience desired.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with federal elected officials and staff.
- Utilize Government Affairs knowledge to impact communication to key internal and external audiences (employees, media, Congress).
Compensation Range: $199,000 - $268,600
The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When offering a position, Saab, Inc. considers factors including role and responsibilities, location, market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.
Skills and ExperienceBasic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 10+ years of experience working with Capitol Hill or in a similar position in an executive branch agency in defense; prior industry experience desired.
- Expansive network of relationships with Members of Congress and staff.
- Direct experience accomplishing legislative outcomes.
- Strong and dynamic leader; passionate advocate for effective and innovative government affairs integration at all levels of the company.
- Highly organized and deadline driven.
- Storytelling ability, curiosity, and the capacity to provide expert perspective across the company.
- Ability to provide in-the-moment strategic feedback and counsel to executives and business leaders.
- Meticulous writing, editing and proofreading skills and demonstrated ability to write for a variety of audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior executives.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and responding to urgent, near-term opportunities as well as meeting longer-term objectives.
- Thrive under pressure and respond quickly and proficiently to stakeholders.
- Consistently exceed expectations and work independently in a flexible environment.
