Position Overview

The Democratic Attorneys General Association is seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Director of Development to strengthen and grow its ambitious national fundraising efforts across its political, electoral, and policy programs and to ensure the organization has the critical resources for the 2026 and 2028 election cycles.

Working closely with the President and Executive Director, the Senior Director will cultivate and maintain relationships with key donor constituencies. The Senior Director will lead an energetic, experienced team of six and oversee the infrastructure and systems needed to meet the organizational fundraising goals.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished fundraiser who can build and cultivate relationships, a thoughtful and experienced manager who can develop and mentor staff, and a political campaigner with a commitment to electing Democratic Attorneys General.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and execution of a comprehensive, ambitious fundraising strategy.
  • Oversee, mentor, and inspire a high‑performing team of six, ensuring strategic growth, operational excellence, and excellent donor engagement.
  • Drive fundraising best practices, including systems utilization, prospecting, donor reporting, data review, and donor communications.
  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to the President and Executive Director, driving organizational priorities and delivering timely fundraising projections and updates.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective donors, working closely with the Directors of Major Gifts and Business Council Partnerships.
  • Establish and implement the infrastructure needed to reach fundraising goals through partnerships, individual donors, grants, and events.
  • Develop compelling messaging and content for fundraising materials, including donor reports.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on fundraising progress to the Executive Committee and stakeholders.
  • Work with the Events Director to ensure fundraising events are designed to maximize net revenue.
  • Represent DAGA at public meetings and events, raising the profile and visibility of the DAGA and its priorities among funders, partners, and policymakers.
Key Attributes and Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ experience in political fundraising, including senior‑level experience developing plans in multi‑channel fundraising, including major gifts, corporate partnerships; ideally in a mix of 527, 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and growing a robust fundraising portfolio of donors ranging from $25,000 to $1,000,000+.
  • Strong command of fundraising best practices; demonstrated success building processes and donor management systems to track and steward funders.
  • Experience building strong relationships with donors and prospects; excellent listening skills, and an ability to engage with a diverse group of donors and prospects in a thoughtful manner.
  • Significant people management experience, including senior leaders, with a proven ability to grow, mentor and foster staff.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with an eye for detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to achieve results, perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to successfully tailor messaging for different audiences.
  • Commitment to educating the public on the work of Attorneys General and DAGA.
  • Sense of humor and positive attitude with your team, DAGA staff, and AGs.
  • Commitment to DAGA’s mission.
  • Campaign experience is a big bonus, but not required.
Structure and Location

This position reports to the Executive Director.

The position will be located at DAGA’s Washington, DC office and is not eligible to be a remote position. DAGA currently operates with a hybrid model where DC‑based employees work in‑office three days a week and work remotely from home two days a week.…
