Requirements

Job Overview

The Georgetown Tech & Society Initiative is a vibrant cross-campus ecosystem creating novel approaches for interdisciplinary collaboration, research, understanding, and action – all at the intersection of technology, ethics, and governance. Tech & Society is looking for a process-oriented yet adaptive candidate to join our team as an Operations Manager supporting three Tech & Society centers: the Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI); the Center for Digital Ethics (CDE);

and the Institute for Technology Law & Policy (ITLP). With partnership and oversight from the Executive Directors of KGI, CDE, and ITLP, the Operations Manager will play an integral role in day-to-day functions and future planning, ensuring that each center's operations and administrative needs are met. The Operations Manager will be a key team member, initiating and overseeing processes related to people operations, internal and external communications, event management, budgeting, administration, procurement, and contracts.

A successful candidate will be proactive and detail-oriented, and will thrive in a collaborative environment. This position requires a self-starter who has experience with event and/or organizational budgeting and can flex their skills across a wide range of operational and administrative responsibilities.

Work Interactions

The Operations Manager's time will be allocated 50% to KGI, and the position will report directly to the KGI Communications Director for work within KGI and for general administrative purposes. The Operations Manager's time will be allocated 25% to CDE and 25% to ITLP, and the position will have secondary, dotted-line reporting to the Executive Directors of CDE and ITLP for purposes of the work within those centers.

The Operations Manager will work collaboratively across these three organizations, and will partner with university contacts in finance, HR, procurement, facilities, and other functions as necessary. A successful candidate will also build relationships with other centers and contacts inside and outside of Georgetown University and Georgetown Law, sharing resources and leading practices.

Work Mode Designation

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation. Complete details about Georgetown University's mode of work designations for staff and AAP positions can be found on the Department of Human Resources website.

Tech & Society works in hybrid mode at present, splitting our time between our Washington, DC Capitol Campus, Main Campus, and working from home. We rely heavily on Slack, Gmail, and Zoom to stay connected synchronously and asynchronously.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 2-3 years of experience in operations, finance, human resources, administration, or other relevant field, or equivalent relevant work experience (i.e., each year of required education may be substituted with one year of relevant work experience)
  • Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
  • Patience, diligence and resourcefulness in navigating complex bureaucratic processes
