Public Health & Social Services (PHSS) is seeking an experienced team leader to supervise and participate in the planning, designing, budgeting, and management of the Specialized Recreation program which includes people of all abilities, but has a focus on those with developmental disabilities.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Coordinate recreational events in the community based on client desires and abilities
  • Create risk mitigation plans to ensure the safety of clients
  • Work with the Developmental Disabilities Administration to ensure invoices are sent on time and payment is received
  • Apply for new grants to facilitate program growth
  • Hire, train, and supervise a team of up to 8 part-time staff
  • Design marketing material to promote events
  • Plan and develop recreation and facility policies and procedures
  • Provide customer service including answering phone and online requests and walk-in customer assistance
  • Compile and review participants’ feedback to identify areas for improvement
  • Perform other work as required or assigned including but not limited to a 24/7 response during public health emergency situations and disease outbreak investigations
The ideal candidate will have a background in public health including:
  • Extensive knowledge of developmental disabilities and mental/behavioral health challenges
  • Experience with Special Olympics or other camp programs related to this population
  • Ability to adapt program methods and techniques to serve disabled residents
  • Ability to supervise, train, and direct the work of others including, work planning, organizing, scheduling, and coordinating
  • Ability to develop, organize and implement recreation programs and events
  • Ability to understand, interpret, monitor, and apply all relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of budget development and management procedures, accountabilities, and records management
  • Ability to maintain accurate financial records and work within authorized budgeted resources
  • Ability to use, operate, and maintain a variety of operational, custodial, and audio-visual equipment as needed

This position reports directly to the Social Services Program Manager.

Working Conditions:

Work may be performed in an office and vy lifting in excess of 15 lbs. may be required.
