Description

This position serves as CMPD’s Accreditation Manager under the direction of the Office of Professional Standards. This position is responsible for management and oversight of the Police Department's law enforcement accreditation program, to include planning and coordinating of accreditation activities, researching and ensuring compliance of departmental directives with CALEA standards, serving as the department’s expert on accreditation, representing the department in mock assessments, CALEA audits and assessments and conferences.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts ongoing self-assessment of the department’s services, facilities, staffing, equipment, and training in alignment with CALEA standards.
  • Performs regular inspections of organizational components, submitting comprehensive reports in accordance with department policy and accreditation timelines.
  • Plans, coordinates, and delivers accreditation-related training to CMPD staff, other city departments, external agencies, and community organizations.
  • Acts as the department’s primary liaison and subject matter expert for all CALEA-related matters.
  • Leads mock assessments for CMPD and assists other law enforcement agencies (statewide and nationally) in preparing for CALEA accreditation.
  • Advices CMPD Command and Executive Staff on accreditation-related matters and best practices.
  • Maintains and updates detailed accreditation files and documentation, ensuring timelines for daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reviews are met.
  • Administers the agency’s accreditation database (Power

    DMS) and ensures accurate and timely updates.
  • Prepares the department for on-site assessments and annual remote-based reviews by CALEA assessors.
  • Reviews CMPD policies and procedures for alignment with state and federal laws, legal rulings, technological advances, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain positive relationships with CALEA, external accreditation networks and other accredited law enforcement agencies.
  • Represents CMPD and the City of Charlotte at CALEA conferences, award hearings, and other accreditation events.
  • Ensures internal controls and accountability structures are in place to support accreditation compliance across all divisions.
  • Conducts audits and organizational reviews to support agency performance and accreditation objectives.
  • Prepares and submits CMPD’s annual accreditation report to CALEA.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Effectively communicates information, both verbally and in written reports or presentations.
