Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Surveyor at Somerset Council, where you'll be leading the disposal of real estate to help support Council objectives. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the strategic development of Somerset Council's Portfolio of surplus property, as well as regeneration of land and property assets and taking a lead role in managing the acquisition and disposal of real estate.
You'll be optimising land and property holdings to minimise costs and deliver capital receipts, while also developing and implementing real estate strategies for strategic sites and asset portfolios. Somerset Council manages a diverse portfolio of over 4,000 assets, including schools, commercial and development sites. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the council's financial sustainability and regeneration ambitions.

QualificationsWhat Kind of Experience or Qualifications Do I Need?:
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But we are looking for a highly skilled property professional with:
- Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and ideally Registered Valuer status.
- Extensive experience in estate management, strategic asset planning, and property transactions.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- A proven track record of delivering complex property projects and achieving financial objectives.

The salary for this role is Grade 7 - £55,101 per annum. A supplement allowance of £19,800 per annum is linked to the Lead Surveyor - Estates, Strategy & Development, bringing the salary to £74,901 per annum. This allowance is subject to National Insurance, Tax and Pension deductions and will be paid in accordance with standard payroll procedures. The allowance is time-limited and will expire on 31/12/2027.
All supplement allowances are reviewed 18 months from the original approval date and may be adjusted or withdrawn based on organisational need, role changes, or market conditions.
Please note:
If the role is re-evaluated or the salary changes as a result of the Pay and Grading Review, the allowance may be reduced or cease entirely. If the salary changes due to the NJC Pay Award, the supplement allowance will be adjusted accordingly to maintain the intended pay differential
