Job Description

As the Director of data center construction, you will play a pivotal role in the early stages of our data center projects, ensuring that they are set up for success from the outset. Your leadership will be crucial in developing and implementing construction strategies that align with our long‑term organizational goals. You will lead the construction phases in conjunction with the project management team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

Your role will be critical to the planning, design, and budgeting phases of complex construction projects, ensuring that they are feasible, schedule‑driven, cost‑effective, and aligned with our quality standards.

Travel will be required, could be up to 50% ote/work from home with full Oracle benefits.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement long‑term preconstruction strategies for data center projects to align with organizational goals.

• Maintain clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status and addressing any concerns.

• Oversee the planning and design phases of data center projects, ensuring they are feasible and aligned with quality, budget, and schedule.

• Develop and manage preconstruction budgets, ensuring cost‑effective use of resources and adherence to financial constraints.

• Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance data center performance and sustainability.

• Track lessons learned in budgets and preconstruction processes to drive continuous improvement.

• Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and costs.

• Lead and mentor the project team in fostering a collaborative and high‑performance work environment.

• Work with the project team to select, negotiate, and manage contracts with external vendors, contractors, and suppliers.

• Ensure all preconstruction activities comply with relevant regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies.

• Implement and oversee quality control processes during the preconstruction phase to ensure the highest standards of planning and design.

Skills Required

• Industry Knowledge: thorough understanding of data center budgeting, cost effectiveness, standard pricing, and the connection between budget and schedule.

• Data Center Industry Relationships: existing positive industry relationships to support preconstruction efforts.

• Budget Process: organize, evaluate, explain, and track baseline budgets from conception to closeout.

Strategic Planning: ability to develop and implement long‑term strategies that align with organizational goals.

• Understanding of Project Management: expertise in overseeing planning, design, and budgeting phases of complex construction projects.

• Leadership: strong leadership skills to mentor and guide a team of preconstruction professionals.

• Vendor Management: proficiency in selecting, negotiating, and managing external vendors and suppliers.



Risk Management:

ability to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies in schedule and budget.

Regulatory Compliance: knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies.

• Communication: excellent communication skills to maintain clear and effective interactions with stakeholders.

Quality Assurance: expertise in implementing and overseeing quality control processes.

• Innovation and Continuous Improvement: ability to stay abreast of industry trends and incorporate innovative solutions.

Qualifications

• Applicable experience in data center construction and preconstruction management.

• Demonstrated success in leading multi‑disciplinary teams and managing vendor relationships.

• Proficiency with budgeting tools and financial management of large‑scale construction projects.

• Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for construction and data center operations.

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to develop risk mitigation strategies.
