About the Role

We seek to hire a Communications Manager who will amplify the voices of our clients, staff, and partners; share timely, compelling stories of justice in action; and ensure that the communities who need us most know how to find help. This role is essential to strengthening public awareness, deepening donor and partner engagement, and advancing NLSLA’s mission of equal access to justice across Los Angeles County.

Working collaboratively across programs, development, and organizational leadership, the Communications Manager will guide and support teams in telling NLSLA’s story with clarity, urgency, and heart. The role will focus on elevating the organization’s impact, ensuring accurate and accessible information reaches the communities we serve, and strengthening NLSLA’s visibility and engagement efforts throughout Los Angeles County.

In this role, you would report to the Director of Development. This position is exempt.

What You’ll Do
  • Guide and support program, development, and leadership teams in crafting clear, compelling, and mission-aligned communications.
  • Develop and manage NLSLA’s annual communications calendar, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.
  • Lead all direct mail campaigns, including strategy, writing, design coordination, production timelines, and vendor management.
  • Draft, edit, and produce content for newsletters, appeals, reports, talking points, and organizational publications.
  • Manage digital communications including website content, email marketing, and social media platforms.
  • Amplify the voices of clients, staff, and partners by identifying and sharing impactful stories of justice in action.
  • Support fundraising efforts by developing donor-centered communications and campaign messaging.
  • Coordinate with outside consultants, designers, and media partners as needed.
  • Ensure brand consistency, accessibility, and accuracy across all external communications.
  • Track performance metrics and use data to refine messaging and outreach strategies.
  • Other tasks may be assigned by management.
  • This position is designated as hybrid. Employees are required to work on-site a minimum of four (4) days per week, with the remaining time eligible for remote work as business needs allow. Specific in-office days may be set by the department or manager to support team collaboration and organizational priorities.
  • Travel to NLSLA program offices, courthouses, and other locations throughout Los Angeles County may be required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of marketing, communications, or media relations experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a similar discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and advancing equity.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, business communication platforms, and web-based case management platforms.
Bonus Points
  • Prior non-profit experience.
  • Certification or formal training in Public Relations or Media Relations.
  • Certification in Digital Marketing or Social Media.
  • Marketing/data analytics certification.
