Overview

Job Description And Duties Under the direction of the Manager II, Chief of the Apprenticeship & Workforce Innovation Unit, the Manager I (Partnership Development Branch Chief) directs the activities of the Partnerships Team. The Manager I is responsible for the overall management of the Partnerships Team, directing and managing information gathering, analysis, and recommendations on new program development pertaining to apprenticeship expansion, regional leadership, and industry partnerships.

Provides high-level outreach workforce expertise and technical assistance, supporting workforce apprenticeship initiatives, and identifying and promoting best practices and lessons learned in program development at the state, regional, and local levels to increase equitable access for registered apprenticeship programs in California.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage information gathering, analysis, and recommendations on new program development pertaining to apprenticeship expansion, regional leadership, and industry partnerships.
  • Provide high-level outreach workforce expertise and technical assistance, supporting workforce apprenticeship initiatives.
  • Identify and promote best practices and lessons learned in program development at the state, regional, and local levels to increase equitable access for registered apprenticeship programs in California.
  • Direct the activities of the Partnerships Team and be responsible for the overall management of the team.

Working Conditions

This job is located at: 1515 Clay St Ste 1902, Oakland CA 94612. The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting or working from home. Current DAS policy is working from the office or the field at least 2 days/week. The office is in an air-conditioned, high-rise building with elevator access, cubicle with natural and artificial lighting. Occasional attendance at committee meetings and outreach events;

collaboration with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Occasional travel will be required.

The position requires the ability to be in a stationary position for long periods of time. Work at a computer, move or transport office items in a safe manner. Transports documents to court, meetings, conferences, etc. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to use email, desktop applications, and any other software to complete tasks.

Special Requirements

The SOQ should contain no more than two pages highlighting your experience of the following:

  • Describe your experience with apprenticeships, with particular comment to promoting, marketing, or developing apprenticeship programs.
  • Describe a personal experience preparing for a sales or marketing demo and the exact steps you took to prepare. What parts do you enjoy, and what parts do you find challenging?
  • Describe a time when your team was struggling. What specifically did you do to support them, what leadership strategies did you implement, and what outcome were you most proud of?
  • Explain a sales or marketing campaign that didn t go as expected. What surprised you, what did the data show, and how did you navigate the situation?

The incumbent is expected to communicate effectively with team members and program leaders and to foster a culture that supports the mission and vision of the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS). Provide outstanding customer service to stakeholders.
