The Site Supervisor will be responsible for leading and supporting site operatives to ensure that all construction activities are carried out safely, competently, and in line with programme requirements. The role involves close collaboration with Site Engineers and the Site Manager to deliver the project to plan, resolving operational challenges, and ensuring the correct use of plant, equipment, and resources.

What you'll be doing
  • Support Engineers with weekly inspections of plant and lifting equipment, ensuring accurate records.
  • Manage the Permit to Work process for all groundbreaking activities.
  • Provide necessary information for site security arrangements.
  • Ensure timely submission of site records for final documentation.
  • Promote and uphold Balfour Beatty’s Code of Conduct to ensure safe, compliant, and consistent working practices.
  • Take responsibility for personal and team safety; lead by example in promoting Zero Harm.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all staff under supervision.
  • Only undertake or assign safety‑critical tasks when competence, training, and certification are verified.
  • Review scopes of work with Project Managers/Engineers to agree safe systems of operation.
  • Assist in preparing method statements, risk assessments, and work packs.
  • Deliver site inductions and daily briefings; ensure correct PPE and welfare facilities are maintained.
  • Liaise on environmental considerations (protected sites, ecology, archaeology).
  • Promptly report accidents, incidents, and near misses, assisting with investigations.
  • Supervise foremen and operatives daily, ensuring safe, efficient, and coordinated operations.
  • Attend safety forums, encourage near‑miss reporting, and communicate safety alerts.
  • Coordinate requisition of plant and equipment in a timely manner.
  • Verify personnel authorisations for plant operation and permits.
  • Ensure external services (trakway, footbridges, etc.) are in place before works begin.
  • Oversee timesheets, progress records, and holiday submissions.
  • Provide visible, positive leadership and model professional behaviour.
  • Support and develop teams through communication, encouragement, and feedback.
  • Conduct MSR (Management Safety Representative) checks with Client’s MSR.
  • Escalate potential issues to Engineers early.
  • Foster fairness, respect, inclusion, and accountability across the workforce.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and manage expectations during delivery.
  • Contribute to effective teamwork and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through workshops and feedback.
  • Monitor construction progress against programme, identifying deviations and corrective actions.
Who we're looking for The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential
  • Previous experience of the construction and delivery of Overhead Line, Cabling or Substation schemes up to 400kV
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Ability to lead, develop and motivate a team for success
  • Holds a current driving licence
The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable
  • Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and financial control
  • Good understanding of current safety legislation
The Candidate Is Likely To Have The Following
  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or Equivalent
