Departmental Overview

Residential and Student Services Programs (RSSP) is part of the Division of Student Affairs under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of RSSP. RSSP provides residential student housing, family housing, residential life programs, facilities services (maintenance/design, custodial, desk operations) self‑operated dining services for undergraduate and graduate students and their families, as well as childcare services for students, faculty, and staff.

RSSP also conducts a year‑round conference business, operates seven campus restaurants and manages several faculty apartments.

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Residential Operations and Emergency Preparedness, oversee day‑to‑day, 24/7/365, unit operations of residential facilities, focusing on delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring a safe living environment. Ensures safe, efficient, and high‑quality daily operation of the residential facilities, through adequate front desk staffing and adherence to operating hours. Provides comprehensive leadership and supervision to unit administrative and student staff.

Oversees critical functions such as space management and condition assessment, key control, maintenance work order tracking, mail services, and customer service issues. Handles key HR functions like recruitment, performance evaluations, monitoring student work‑study awards, etc.

The position is required to be an on‑site position with infrequent opportunities for remote work as approved by the Director of Residential Operations.

Responsibilities Unit Operations & Staff Supervision
  • Responsible for day‑to‑day operations of residential facilities, ensuring adequate front desk staffing meets advertised hours of operation. Promoting high‑quality customer service and effectiveness of work.
  • Monitor facility conditions, coordinate, and advocate for timely service response from internal departments (RSSP Maintenance & Trades, Custodial & Grounds Services, Design & Projects, Campus Facilities) and outside vendors to ensure all facility‑related needs are appropriately prioritized and met.
  • Perform comprehensive routine facilities inspections (including building walks, room, furniture, security, event setup, and Health & Safety assessments) and communicate directly with all relevant stakeholders‑residents, guests, vendors, and internal staff‑to coordinate maintenance, address service requests, and guarantee smooth operational flow.
