Purpose Statement / Position SummaryThere has never been a more exciting time to join Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). As we prepare for the next 125 years of creating hope and building healthier futures for children, CHLA has launched a historic Anniversary Campaign, including an ambitious Legacy Challenge. To help drive this transformational effort, the CHLA Foundation is seeking a strategic, relationship driven fundraising professional to serve as Associate Vice President, Gift Planning (AVP).
This is a unique opportunity to join a high performing, mission centered team and play a pivotal role in shaping CHLA’s future impact. The AVP will be a proactive, intellectually curious fundraiser who excels at building trust, cultivating meaningful relationships, and guiding donors through the benefits and possibilities of planned giving. The AVP provides leadership implementation of fundraising programs and oversees daily aspects in one of the below specific CHLA Foundation fundraising efforts for both restricted and unrestricted needs.
Includes responsibility for fundraising that target high net worth partners and other assigned fundraising areas/mechanisms.
This non‑supervisor role will report to the Associate Senior Vice President (ASVP), Gift Planning, and will:
Responsibilities- Partner with the ASVP to design and execute strategies that identify new prospects and build a robust pipeline of bequests, life income gifts, and gifts of noncash assets.
- Build and manage a dynamic portfolio, leading the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gift planning prospects—personally securing six and seven figure commitments.
- Apply deep knowledge of charitable gift planning and strong listening skills to understand donor goals and recommend tailored giving solutions.
- Collaborate closely with internal colleagues and external professional advisors to structure and secure complex planned gifts.
- Prepare compelling proposals, gift illustrations, and agreements that clearly communicate donor impact.
- Strengthen CHLA’s presence within the professional advisor community through active engagement and relationship building.
- Stay informed on emerging trends, tax law changes, and best practices in charitable gift planning.
The ideal candidate is collaborative, mission driven, and able to regularly meet with donors throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.
Minimum Qualifications / Work Experience- 7+ years of demonstrated success closing major, principal or planned gifts, preferably in a medical or higher educational setting or 7+ years' experience practicing law or estate/tax planning may be considered and /or equivalent experience.
- Strong persuasive writing experience.
- Proven donor acquisition and management experience.
- Proven experience working with non‑cash assets.
- Juris Doctorate (JD).
- Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG) or similar certification.
