Reporting to the HSW Manager you will play a key role in supporting the practical delivery of the Alliance's Health, Safety and Wellbeing strategy across SPA. Working closely with project and delivery teams, the role focuses on embedding safe working practices, promoting wellbeing and behavioural safety, and ensuring consistent application of HSW procedures on site. Through regular site engagement, coaching, and visible leadership, you will help build competence, support compliance, and ensure a positive safety culture.
The role also contributes to assurance activities, incident management, and collaborative engagement with supply chain partners, acting as a day-to-day link between operational teams and the wider HSW function.
- Provide visible and proactive leadership across operational teams, promoting high standards of health, safety, and wellbeing through everyday engagement and role modelling.
- Support the development and performance of HSW team members by offering coaching, guidance, and feedback to help drive consistent, high-quality outputs.
- Support the implementation of the Alliance's HSW strategy by helping operational teams apply policies, procedures, and risk controls throughout the project lifecycle.
- Build strong working relationships with delivery teams, supply chain partners, and other stakeholders to support collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing.
- Explore 'new ways' of working with teams, for the purposes of enhanced HSW management, and efficiencies operationally.
- Promote Inclusive Site Culture – Actively support the creation of inclusive working environments on site by encouraging respectful behaviours, challenging inappropriate conduct, and ensuring all team members feel valued and heard.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification
- Experience in an operational health and safety role within infrastructure, utilities, or construction
- Working knowledge of HSW legislation within the Construction/Infrastructure industry
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at the frontline
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support individuals or small teams, including coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback
- Experience in coordinating resources and supporting team development in line with operational needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the to solve problems and resolve potential conflicts
