This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Thriving Places Directorate within the Sustainable Transport and Highways Team. This team develops and delivers strategies, policies, and projects to support inclusive, sustainable and integrated Highways projects across the Westmorland & Furness area.
This is a key post based primarily within Highway Delivery, leading the development and delivery of significant and complex projects and programmes of work.
This role will provide a Highways Programme control function for highway related projects across Westmorland and Furness, including internal highway schemes and projects as well as externally delivered projects such as the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project; managing the Council’s contribution to infrastructure development and partnership engagement liaison.
Key responsibilities- Lead the development and delivery of significant and complex projects and programmes of work, including contributing to the delivery of the Westmorland and Furness Council Plan.
- Lead, build and manage a high performing project and programme management team.
- Actively manage, develop and mentor team members.
To fulfil this role, we are looking for a passionate, motivated and organised individual with the following experience, skills and knowledge:
- Highway industry knowledge and experience.
- Project management knowledge and experience with a strong track record in the delivery of significant projects and programmes of work.
- Demonstrable experience of working with a range of external and internal stakeholders with a proven track record of partnership working.
- Proven ability to prioritise, motivate and influence others.
- Well-developed project, programme and risk management skills across all stages of project / programme life cycle.
- Experience of project management and programme management techniques and methodologies.
This role is primarily based in Penrith and Kendal, though we are supportive of a hybrid approach to working, including working from home and from our offices in Barrow.
