The Curtis Group is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to join our growing team. This role is designed for a professional who brings deep fundraising expertise, strong client leadership skills, and an established presence in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) region. As a trusted fundraising strategist and philanthropic partner, you will develop customized, research‑based strategies and provide hands‑on support to nonprofit clients, working closely with the firm’s leadership and consulting team to oversee a client portfolio focused on major‑gift program expansion, campaign management, and capacity building.
Responsibilities- Serve as a lead consultant overseeing development and execution of capacity building, planning study, and campaign strategy in a multi‑client portfolio
- Ensure all internal and client materials meet the highest standards and are developed in a thoughtful and timely manner
- Conduct thoughtful, confidential one‑on‑one planning study interviews with major philanthropists
- Develop and guide individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for donor prospects
- Build trusted partnerships with clients and campaign volunteers, serving as a strategic advisor to organizational leadership and boards
- Provide guidance and oversight of other team members assigned to the client team
- Ensure accountability to agreed‑upon timelines by proactively managing client expectations, guiding next steps, and addressing barriers to progress
- Deliver formal presentations to clients, their boards, and external audiences
- Review and approve materials for, and participate in, client check‑in meetings and committee meetings
- Maintain timely follow‑up after client meetings and oversee project timelines
- Participate in, and at times lead, the training of campaign staff and volunteers
- Actively contribute to business development efforts by identifying, cultivating, and supporting new client opportunities, leveraging an established professional network, and collaborating with firm leadership on growth opportunities
- Seek and share industry trends and knowledge through presentations, webinars, and written articles
- Represent The Curtis Group at industry events and within the sector with key professional organizations, with particular emphasis on engagement in the DMV region
- 8–10+ years of development experience, with prior fundraising consulting experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in a fast‑paced, dynamic, multi‑faceted organization, preferably with major‑gift and campaign management experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously, meeting frequent deadlines
- BS/BA degree required; advanced degree a plus
- Must be based in the DMV metro region and able to travel to client sites and firm gatherings as required
- After‑hours meetings, events, and travel are part of the role
