A Little More About Your RoleWSP’s Roads Northwest business unit is seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex, multi‑disciplinary highways, infrastructure, and public‑realm schemes across the region. You will take full responsibility for managing high‑profile projects under the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (NH SDF), as well as major local‑authority programmes, regeneration projects, and wider transport initiatives. This role represents a significant opportunity for a proven project‑management professional to lead nationally important schemes, influence strategic client relationships, and play a key role in the growth and performance of one of the UK’s most respected consultancies.
Key Responsibilities- Champion a strong culture of health, safety, quality, and sustainability, fully aligned with WSP’s guiding principles.
- Lead and manage the delivery of multi‑disciplinary projects under the NH SDF and other regional frameworks, ensuring robust governance, performance, and client satisfaction.
- Coordinate design, environmental, commercial, digital, and construction specialists to ensure seamless, integrated project delivery.
- Develop, maintain, and manage project programmes, budgets, risk registers, and financial forecasts, ensuring projects remain on track and within approved parameters.
- Lead commercial and financial planning activities, including cost control, early warnings, change management, and performance reporting.
- Prepare, review, and manage all key project documentation in line with WSP governance and client requirements.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients, stakeholders, and supply‑chain partners, acting as a trusted advisor and key point of contact.
- Ensure full compliance with NEC4 contract management processes, including communication management, programme acceptance, and compensation‑event administration.
- Provide leadership across internal and external stakeholder groups, supporting strategic decision‑making and proactively resolving emerging issues.
- Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice across all projects and teams.
- APM PMQ (or equivalent) achieved or in progress; MAPM or chartership is advantageous.
- Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary infrastructure and/or public‑realm schemes, ideally within highways or transportation.
- Strong understanding of commercial, financial, and contract management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Robust working knowledge of NEC4 contracts, with hands‑on experience delivering projects within an NEC environment.
- Competent user of Microsoft 365 and MS Project; experience with Primavera P6 is desirable. Confident in the use of a range of AI tools including MS Copilot.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex stakeholder environments.
- A proactive, solution‑focused mindset with the ability to think critically, manage competing priorities, and lead teams to successful outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to drive project performance, manage risks, and deliver high‑quality outputs.
