Senior Counsel, Head of IP Policy & Advocacy What You Will DoLets do this. Lets change the world. At Amgen, our mission is to bring life-changing therapies to patients who need them. The Head of IP Policy & Advocacy is responsible for setting and executing a cohesive IP policy strategy that safeguards Amgen's intellectual assets, supports long-term scientific investment, and promotes balanced systems that foster both innovation and patient access worldwide.
We are looking for a strong leader who can shape external narratives around intellectual property rights, rebut misinformation that threatens innovation incentives and the integrity of the IP system, identify new IP policy risks and opportunities, and advise Amgen's senior leadership team.
The successful candidate will serve as Amgen's IP policy advocate with policymakers, regulators, and other key external stakeholders. This will include actively engaging with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Offices leadership team, Congress, trade associations, academic experts, and think tanks to influence legislation, rule making, and guidance affecting intellectual property rights.
Other responsibilities will include coordinating amicus efforts in support of significant patent litigation efforts, serving as a speaker or panelist at trade organization meetings, and facilitating the writing and publication of papers advocating our positions.
Internally, the role drives cross-functional and cross-regional coordination on advocacy efforts, supports responsible collaborations and licensing, and promotes education and alignment on IP policy issues. The successful candidate will lead our IP Policy Team (a diverse group of IP attorneys with expertise in areas including patent prosecution, patent litigation, biosimilars, trademarks, and AI), and work closely with their Government Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Commercial, Litigation, and other colleagues to identify and manage IP policy risks and opportunities across jurisdictions and to keep senior leaders and business partners informed of relevant developments.
This is a remote position, with a preference for someone on the East Coast, ideally in the Washington, DC area.

Basic QualificationsJ.D. degree or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school, admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction and four (4) years of experience practicing Intellectual Property law.
Preferred Qualifications- Ten (10) or more years of experience practicing Intellectual Property law
- Background in patent prosecution or patent litigation with connecting IP policy work.
- Involvement in trade organizations and/or patent associations
- Excellent analytic, legal drafting and oral and written communication skills
- Strong management and leadership skills as well as a strong client service focus and the ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to think creatively and devise practical solutions to challenging problems
- Ability to work efficiently, to prioritize workflow, to meet demanding deadlines, and to manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
