DescriptionJefferson County, located in Golden, Colorado, seeks an experienced land use attorney to perform a variety of land use work for the County Attorney's Office. The attorney will support primarily Planning and Zoning and the Assessor and may be called upon to assist other attorneys within the County Attorney’s office or other County divisions and departments with land use related issues arising in other contexts within the county.
Such transactional work includes all land use related work, including but not limited to leases, license agreements, special districts, real estate purchase and sale agreements, deeds, and easements. This position also includes representation of the Board of Adjustment and as needed, the Planning Commission and providing general legal advice to the Assessor. While there may be other duties assigned, the primary focus for this position is land use.
The Jefferson County Attorney’s Office consists of approximately 4 5 0 attorneys and staff members who work collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Jefferson County. This position will work on the transactional team in a technologically advanced, sophisticated, and collegial work environment, with County clients and agencies, elected officials and the public. The County Attorney’s Office provides flexibility in creating a work schedule that promotes a work-life balance.
Levelsand Salary
Depending on qualifications, this position may be hired as an Assistant County Attorney at the Staff or Associate level. The Staff position is an entry-level attorney position. The Associate position will typically assist other attorneys in making decisions regarding their workflow, and interactions at the Associate level are typically concerned with providing communications at higher levels of organizational operations and may utilize activities such as evaluating customer satisfaction, developing cooperative associations, and allocating resources to improve work operations, work quality, overall achievement of organizational goals and objectives, and customer satisfaction.
ScheduleThis position has the potential to operate on a four-day, 40-hour work week (Monday-Thursday) or a standard work week (Monday-Friday) or other full-time schedule as agreed to by the County Attorney. This position also offers the opportunity for remote work on some days of the week.
CompensationThe anticipated hiring range for staff to associate level is $109,000 - $140,000.
The full salary range for Staff level is $91,374.29 - $.

Compensation will depend on education and experience and equivalency under the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Essential DutiesThe work involves working closely with the county’s other land use attorneys and with planning and zoning staff, reviewing and revising staff reports, and advising the Boards of Adjustment, the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners regarding land use matters. This position also involves drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, grants licenses, intergovernmental agreements, leases, and other related documents and advising on land use issues as they arise in contexts other than within planning and zoning.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- JD or LLB from an accredited law school.
- One (1) year minimum of transactional or contract work experience.
- Licensed to practice law in Colorado and in good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court.
