Moore Law for Children is a boutique law firm based in Laguna Beach, California, that specializes in special education law and school discipline defense. This is a full-time remote position with a preference for candidates based in California, given the client base and filing requirements.

- Handle office correspondence and administrative tasks such as responding to emails and phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and letting the team know about upcoming deadlines
- Accept other administrative tasks as needed to assist the team and ensure the firm runs smoothly
- Conduct legal research, when necessary, with guidance from attorneys and paralegals
- Work with attorneys and paralegals to create various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation, and proofread documents when requested
- Process client billing properly using daily time records with help from the accounting department
- Draft and file court documents for adoptions, limited conservatorships, and legal guardian ships
- Prepare engagement agreements and review them with new clients
- Open and maintain physical and electronic files for clients
- Request, organize, and save client records
- Close client files at the end of the representation
- Draft basic communications and letters
- Proofread and file attorney letters and briefs
- Prepare and file documents with the court
- Research issues and write legal memos
- Provide administrative support to our legal team
- Maintain practice and client confidentiality
- We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced: 3+ years as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant (education law, family law, or litigation experience a plus)
- Organized & Detail-Oriented:
You spot errors others miss and keep cases moving without being micromanaged - Client-Focused:
You are empathetic, responsive, and understand how to communicate with families in emotional or stressful situations - Tech-Savvy:
You’re comfortable with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and cloud-based legal tools (e.g., Clio or similar) - Resourceful & Proactive:
You anticipate needs and solve problems before they arise - Strong Communicator:
Clear, concise, and professional in both written and verbal interactions - Mission-Aligned:
You genuinely care about children, families, and doing meaningful legal work
$25 - $30 hourly DOE
