The Opportunity
A highly regarded IP boutique law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its expanding litigation practice. The firm represents pharmaceutical and related biotechnology companies in complex, high-stakes matters and is experiencing sustained demand across its core practices. This is a specialist, niche practice, with the majority of work focused on ANDA (Hatch-Waxman) and biosimilar (BPCIA) litigation. The firm is looking for candidates who can step into matters efficiently and are already familiar with the language and structure of these cases.
The firm is headquartered in Chicago, but remote working is firmly established and fully supported.

- No patent prosecution work
- 1–6 years’ experience in patent litigation
- Prior ANDA and/or biosimilar litigation experience is strongly required
- Ability to contribute with limited training and supervision
- Strong legal writing and analytical skills
- Science or technical background highly preferred
- Chemistry, pharmacy, biology, immunology, or related fields are common within the firm
- Comfortable working with sophisticated scientific issues and expert witnesses
- Approximately 1,950 hours per year
- Workload allows associates to meet targets consistently
- While not strictly on Big Law scale, the firm rewards strong performers
- Flexibility to exceed standard bands for standout candidates
- Strong bonus culture in profitable years
- Specialist, nationally recognised pharma/biotech IP practice
- Meaningful litigation responsibility and client exposure
- Collegial boutique environment with long-term stability
- Genuine flexibility on location and working arrangements
- True Specialist Practice in Life Sciences IP - This is a pure-play pharmaceutical and biotech IP practice, with the vast majority of work focused on ANDA (Hatch-Waxman) and biosimilar (BPCIA) litigation. Associates aren’t diluted across unrelated IP work — they build deep, marketable expertise in one of the most sophisticated areas of patent litigation.
- High-Quality Work, Not Commodity Litigation - The firm handles complex, high-stakes matters for sophisticated life sciences clients. Associates are exposed to substantive strategy, expert work, and regulatory-adjacent issues rather than routine or repetitive litigation tasks.
- Science-Driven Legal Environment - Most attorneys have science or technical backgrounds, creating a culture where scientific fluency is the norm. This leads to better legal work, more engaging collaboration, and a strong intellectual environment for attorneys who enjoy working at the intersection of law and science.
- Boutique Platform with Real Responsibility - With a lean, specialist team, associates receive meaningful responsibility earlier than at larger firms — including direct partner interaction, client exposure, and ownership over significant aspects of cases. Performance is visible and genuinely rewarded.
- Flexibility Without Compromising Sophistication - The firm offers established remote-working flexibility while maintaining a demanding, high-calibre practice. Associates get the benefit of top-tier litigation experience without being constrained by rigid geography or traditional Big Law structures.
