About the Role

Tenenbaum Law Group PLLC is a six-attorney, nationally recognized boutique law firm based in downtown Washington, DC. Founded in 2020, the firm serves as outside general counsel to hundreds of nonprofit organizations across the United States and around the world. We are seeking an Associate Attorney to join our rapidly growing nonprofit law practice.

TLG brings decades of Big Law experience with the efficiency, responsiveness, and personalized service of a boutique firm. We focus on practical, impactful solutions; thoughtful advocacy; and a deep understanding of the nonprofit sector and best practices. Our team takes our work – but not ourselves – very seriously, and we are passionate about helping our clients achieve their missions and goals.

While our day-to-day operations are fully remote, team members are welcome to work from our downtown DC office as desired. We also gather in person several times a year for training, collaboration, firm events, and fun – because we believe that strong personal connections and shared experiences make for a better work environment.

About the Role

This position is ideal for an attorney with two-to-four years of experience who is interested in building a nonprofit law practice in a collaborative, supportive environment. The Associate Attorney will work closely with more-senior attorneys while taking on increasing responsibility over time.

The ideal candidate is resourceful, detail-oriented, and enjoys daily client interaction. They are comfortable juggling multiple matters, eager to learn from experienced practitioners, and motivated to develop practical, solution-oriented approaches to complex legal issues facing nonprofit organizations.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate Attorney’s practice will focus on nonprofit legal matters, including:

  • Serving as a day-to-day point of contact for nonprofit clients, including executive leadership and staff, under the guidance and supervision of more-senior attorneys.
  • Reviewing, drafting, and revising a wide range of contracts, including vendor agreements, hotel and convention center contracts, sponsorship and endorsement agreements, independent contractor agreements, IP licensing contracts, and affiliation agreements, among others.
  • Assisting with contract negotiations, including preparing markups, summarizing key issues, and collaborating with supervising attorneys.
  • Reviewing and assisting with revisions to nonprofit governing documents, including Bylaws, policies, and procedures, among others.
  • Supporting the formation of new nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations and their affiliates, including entity formation and the preparation of IRS and state filings.
  • Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda, client communications, and analyses on nonprofit legal and compliance issues.
  • Assisting senior attorneys in providing practical legal advice and counsel to clients on a wide range of legal issues affecting nonprofit organizations.
  • Managing multiple matters concurrently while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy, responsiveness, and professionalism.
Qualifications
  • A J.D. degree with at least two years of relevant legal experience as a practicing attorney, preferably involving nonprofit organizations.
  • Membership in the DC Bar or eligibility to be admitted.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work product.
  • Willingness to learn new areas of nonprofit law and grow within the practice.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit corporate law and federal tax law applicable to tax-exempt organizations.
  • Interest in staying current on legal developments and trends affecting the nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and be part of a dynamic, supportive, collaborative team.
  • Ability to develop and implement creative, workable legal strategies and solutions.
