THE OPPORTUNITYAs a full-time Wills & Estates Paralegal with our growing, forward-thinking boutique firm in Burnaby, you will play a key role in supporting the lawyers in our Wills & Estates practice to ensure that work is executed successfully, with excellence, and in a timely manner. This position would best suit a self-motivated, adaptable, and independent paralegal who is looking to add their expertise to a positive and collaborative environment.
The successful candidate will work from our Burnaby office located near beautiful Deer Lake Park. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm. This position is also eligible for flexible hours and hybrid remote work.
REQUIREMENTSWe are looking for someone who is not only a skilled paralegal, but also a great fit for our team and culture:

- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a broad range of tasks independently.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills with the ability to adapt to and master new computer programs and processes.
- Experience with Adobe, BC Online, and MS Office 365 (especially proficiency in Word and Excel).
- Experience with Asana, Doxsera, and LEAP is an asset.
- Related post-secondary education is an asset, i.e. Paralegal Certificate or Diploma.
- Draft and prepare Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Representation Agreements based on lawyer instructions and client intake information.
- Respond to new client inquiries and conduct detailed client intake and assist with gathering required information, assets, and background documentation.
- Prepare and manage personal planning document execution packages, including arranging signing appointments and ensuring proper execution and witnessing requirements are met.
- Maintain and update precedents and templates for estate planning documents and related correspondence.
- Assist with estate administration files from start to finish, including preparing documentation for probate and post-probate administration.
- Draft and file probate materials including forms, affidavits, letters, checklists, and supporting documents in accordance with BC Supreme Court requirements.
- Prepare applications for Grants of Probate/Administration and related court filings (as applicable).
- Assist with estate accounting, tracking disbursements, and preparing estate distribution summaries and reporting.
- Prepare correspondence and documentation related to asset collection, creditor notices, beneficiary communications, and distributions.
- Coordinate with third parties such as financial institutions, land title offices, notaries, accountants, and beneficiaries to obtain and process estate-related information
- Support lawyers with estate litigation matters, including document preparation, organization, and file management.
- Assist with preparing litigation documents such as pleadings, affidavits, lists of documents, application materials, and court forms (as applicable to the role).
- Manage court and filing deadlines, diarize key dates, and assist with scheduling and service arrangements.
