We are seeking an Attorney to join our team of lawyers who fight to advance liberty and protect constitutional rights. This is an exceptional opportunity to litigate precedent‑setting cases nationwide and to contribute meaningfully to the defense of constitutional freedoms.
This full‑time position can be based virtually anywhere in the US. Title (Staff Attorney or Senior Counsel) and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities For Attorneys with 1‑4 years of litigation experience:Staff Attorneys are developing litigators who:
- Conduct rigorous legal research and analysis on cutting‑edge constitutional and administrative law issues.
- Draft persuasive complaints, motions, and appellate briefs; assist with discovery, evidentiary hearings, and oral advocacy preparation.
- Participate in all facets of litigation under the supervision of a Senior Attorney, with progressive responsibility for case tasks and client communications.
- Help identify and develop new case ideas and litigation opportunities aligned with LJC’s mission.
- Collaborate closely in a highly entrepreneurial, team‑oriented environment; provide and receive constructive feedback to elevate work product.
Senior Counsel are entrepreneurial litigators who:
- Identify and develop high‑impact cases, often on accelerated timelines.
- Manage a robust, leanly staffed and active docket from ideation through appeal, including client development, research, drafting, motion practice, discovery, oral advocacy, and appellate briefing.
- Provide strategic insight and mentorship within a highly collaborative team environment.
- Serve as organizational spokespersons as appropriate, including thought leadership and media engagement.
For Staff Attorney level:
- Support launches of high‑impact cases and maintain a robust portfolio of work.
- Meet deadlines and advance cases through key milestones (pleadings, preliminary injunctions, dispositive motions, appeals).
- Produce high‑quality written work that is clear, concise, accurate, and compelling to both courts and lay audiences.
- Maintain a strong, active portfolio of high‑impact matters across jurisdictions.
- Consistently advance matters through key litigation milestones (complaints, preliminary injunctions, dispositive motions, appeals).
- Proactively identify and seize litigation opportunities aligned with LJC’s mission, including recruiting clients.
- Produce persuasive briefs and filings of the highest caliber, on deadline.
- Publish op‑eds, essays, and analyses (including on platforms such as Substack) to amplify case work and ideas.
- Participate in media interviews and podcasts; write op‑eds; deliver public talks and CLEs as appropriate.
- Collaborate with communications staff to translate complex legal issues for lay audiences and stakeholders.
- D. from an accredited law school; strong academic record.
- For Staff Attorney level:
- 1–4 years of litigation experience (clerkship experience counts); federal court experience preferred; appellate exposure is a plus.
- 5–10 years of litigation experience, including significant federal court practice; appellate experience strongly preferred.
