Elementum is hiring our first in-house Senior Counsel. Reporting directly to the COO and working in coordination with our external General Counsel, you will take ownership of the legal function to increase deal velocity, open new business opportunities, and accelerate IP development.

This is not an advisory role for a lawyer who prefers to mark up documents in isolation. We need a commercial operator who is comfortable joining sales calls to negotiate multi-million-dollar contracts directly with customer leadership, navigating complex IP strategy with engineering, and operating as a "10x lawyer" by leveraging the latest AI tools.

Commercial & Contract Law (Primary Focus)

• Own Elementum’s contract review, negotiation, and approval process to support deal velocity while managing legal and commercial risks.
• Establish and maintain contract standards, playbooks, and fallback positions.
• Accelerate patent volume by partnering directly with Product and Engineering to mine internal innovation and significantly increase the volume of high-quality patent filings.
• Work with external counsel to manage the IP portfolio strategy to ensure we are building a defensive moat around our AI and data cloud technologies.

Legal Partner & External Counsel Management

• Serve as the primary point of contact between Elementum and its external legal firms.
• Ensure outside counsel is used efficiently, cost-effectively, and only where appropriate.

Corporate, Employment Support

• Provide legal support across corporate governance and employment matters, engaging specialists as needed.
• Partner with People Success on employment-related issues and compliance.

AI, Data & Risk

• Advise on legal risks associated with AI technologies, LLM usage, data privacy, and enterprise data environments.
• Help the business navigate emerging regulatory and contractual considerations related to AI and data.

• An AI power user who actively uses the latest legal AI tools to automate review, drafting, and research—allowing you to work faster and cheaper than traditional lawyers.
• A "Player/Coach" willing to handle high-level strategy (IP/Fundraising) and tactical execution (redlining contracts) with equal enthusiasm.
• Commercially minded, understanding that the goal of Legal is to facilitate revenue, not just identify risk. You can translate legal concepts into business terms for the C-Suite.
• You have deep experience working in early-stage technology companies, specifically within data, SaaS, or AI environments.

• 6 - 8 years of experience in corporate law with JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
• Prior in-house experience at a high-growth SaaS or AI company.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating commercial contracts (preferably $1M+) directly with opposing counsel and business stakeholders.
• Actively using AI tools in legal workflows.
• Experience with IP development and patent filing coordination in a technical environment.
• Familiarity with corporate governance, stock administration, and fundraising mechanics.
• Thorough understanding of legal risks associated with AI, LLMs, and enterprise data.
